i was talkin to my friend one day about cars, and he is one of those guys who thinks they kno everything about cars but dont, so i was talkin about a 3000GT, and also a WRX, and he tells me some b/s that i am not sure about is true or not, since the 3000gt and wrx both are awd/4wd, he sez that it takes away from the hp, is this true? cuz if its not then i will have to talk to him and tell him he is wrong lol, thanks guys:sun:

there are 3 models of the 3000gt.. base, SL, and VR-4. only the VR-4 has AWD...
someone correct me if i am wrong .. but AWD and 4WD, although similar, not the same.. AWD is on all the time. for example, the WRX. 4WD however, can be turned on and off .. like my friends 4runner.
as for the main question, i do not see how having AWD would take away from the HP.. engine output is engine output. however, having AWD would most def. make your car heavier.
my question now is.. how does having AWD affect 0-60 or 1/4 mile time. i can see both sides the the argument. AWD allows you to catch the ground and gain traction from launching. but its heavy as hell.. haha

thanks

Yup - the VR4 is the only AWD of the 3000GT. The number of wheels the engine drives doesn't take away horsepower at the engine but it does from getting to the wheels. Its called drivetrain loss. Turning 4 wheels takes more energy then turning two (additional driveshaft) This saps some of the HP which effects top end performance, but let me tell you, off the line, its hard to beat a AWD car that has decent to awsome torque.

once again yogs has beaten me to the perfect answer.. drivetrain loss..
it doesn't have less hp. and i'm sure if he wanted to race against one.. he would see the diff.. but like ya said.. people who think they know everything are never wrong so don't bother telling him .. lol
