can i run these @ 2 ohm?

i have a two-channel amp that makes 550w RMS @ 2ohm and 250w RMS @ 4ohm. i have a pair of DVC subs rated to 600w RMS and 1200w peak. the subs are only rated to run at 4ohm. the amp is stable at 4ohm or 2ohm.

can i run the subs at 2ohm without blowing up something, so as to get power to them that is close to what they can handle, instead of only half their RMS (at 4ohm)?

i ask because i want to have to subs operate at or close to their full potential but i dont feel like spending more money on two mono amps then having to figure out how to wire two amps with one amp kit.

thanx guys.

wire each voice coil to a channel then you will get a 250 watts per vc which equals 500 for the sub cause if you go with 2ohm you just fryed your sub

what is the impedance of each coil?

" Dual 4 ohm voice coil"

wire each VC to the channel?

the subs have the standard flat connections for wire. and it has two RCA style connectors on each side. i would guess those are for powering each voice coil? how do i wire those to the amp instead of the standard flat connectors??

sorry if i sound stupid, im still a newb at this stuff.

just out of curiousity, how does one wire two amps to two drivers with one wiring kit? i may upgrade to two mono amps one day...

also, these subs individual SPL rating is "93.39db @ 2.83v" is that decent? or should i get new ones...got them for really good discount at the local stereo place cuz my friend's dad is the store manager. they only had these two left cuz they were no longer carried, which is part of the reason i got such a good deal.

there is a lot more to a good sub than just the sensitivity. since it is rated at 2.83v you should subtract about 3db from that rating to get what it would be at 1 watt.

wire each sub's coils in paralell, that will give you a 2 ohm load for each sub. then wire each sub to separate channels, that will give you 550rms per sub.
