I have a 93 transam m6 and a freind told me that 4.11's would make my 1st gear useless? He said something about the 93 t56 having a steeper gear than other years? He told me i should get some 3.73? Has anyone else heard of this?

3:73's are about the max for a car that sees daily usage. I had it in my Z28 and they were great for off the line but high end suffered. The Z28 was a 305. Compaired to my GTA 350 with 3:23's you can tell a difference.

I beg to differ once again. Up until the 8th of this month I had been DDing my camaro for over a year with 4.10s.... 4 1/2 months of which was with a busted trans and a tired engine and still got 20 MPG (when aroudn town your trans holds first out to 3500, then shifts into second, then you have to do all the other shifts yourself.... yea, milage suffers.) And she pulls top end hard as hell.... until 114 when i get a misfire.
Although your friend IS right about the 93 t56 being different, I'd still probably recommend 4.10s. And with a 6 speed gas milage will barely be affected.

And I still beg to differ that the long term effect of sustained driving with a high final gear ratio is not a good one.

Well with a 6spd that has 2 overdrives 4.11's will be perfrect cause in 6th gear u are still cruising at the same RPMs that an automatic with 3.23's cruises......4.11's dont make u wrap up that high when ur OD ratio is only .5.....i have 3.73s and have had them for about 3yrs now and i highway drive alot and my RPMs are at 2400 going 70.....So altho wrightz28's theory is correct, in ur car u wont be turning such a high rpm that its gonna destroy ur engine. prolly gonna go from 17-1800rpm with ur 3.42's to about 2100rpm with 4.11's....I say DO IT!!!

I think mines is around 2600 at 70 close to 3 grand...im getting my stall put back on next week so who knows how it will run then.....but the 3.73's are bad ass!

That dont sound right unless ur stall isnt locking up or ur tranny has some different gearing or stock Tach is way off....My stock tach reads a lil over 2500 but my Autometer 5in tach reads 2400.

built tranny, stall isnt in it right now it broke...so its running now without my stall in it...along with my custom tune that hasnt been changed since the stall got snatched out....im almost sure that at 70 i still have a gear left, so unless i punch it the rpms is pretty darn close to 3grand...not on it but its near it

Not saying ur lying man but that math dont add up....are u sure its locking up? i know when my converter wasnt locking up i was almost at 3k....what do u mean u still have a gear left?

when its at 70 the rpm is tacking around 2600rpm or so....if i floor it at 70, it sometimes feels like it shifts into another gear as if it werent in od already.....maybe something is wrong???? hell it runs great as hell, and it hasnt hesitated or anything when im driving/raceing.....when im driving home 2day ill really get a good look at what its doing at 70. i really didnt notice it till a week ago and this weekend when i was driving down to MIA.... i thought about it for a split second and never really dwelled on it much after lol. i hope im on crack and im reading wrong but im damn near sure its close to 3grand.... like i said, i do have a 2200 stall that i had to take off and get fixed and it will be back on in a week or so, i know for a fact when its on its not running as high as it is now. only thing i dislike about the stall though is u cant get a good dyno reading. i need to dyno her b4 i put it back on...have no clue what she does on spray, and after headers

Well when u floor it at 70 its still gonna kick down a gear to probably 3rd going from 70 then shift again back into 4th at the right speed....Like i said the stock tachs are notorious for being off, some more than others.

Yea if ur that high up make sure ur verter is locking up man.....if it aint that shit is building some serious heat and trannies HATE that!!! Have it scanned and make sure its signaling for lock then make sure its actually doing it.
