This is a safety recall, they have to do it, at any time. They have had several recalls for this issue, each time the new ball joint has steadily improved. The newest revision works quite well.

The only ball joint covered under the recall is that on the straight lower control arm. It's proper name is the Lower Lateral Link. The curved control is is a Compression Arm or Compression Link. That is not covered.

Ken, the dealer can run the VIN number to see if the recall has already been done to your car. If it has then you can usually not get it done again unless the same part has failed under another recall... Either way it wouldn't hurt to check to see which ones have been done to the car already. I know I plan on checking mine out eventually, even though it probably won't really matter that much to me.

Mine were replaced a couple times under the same recall. I stockpiled a shitload of LLLs anyway just in case they decided to give me shit. As far as I know though, they can not deny safety recall work. If they did, I would get the NTSB up their ass.

They should do the whole arm. I had mine done at my shop right before I found out about the recall. The shop did the whole arm. I took it in the the dealer, they resealed and double checked everything, then reimbursted me the amount I paid for the shop to do it. Took a while with some paperwork, but I still got about $300 back.
