OK, I haven't built a 1:24 kit in a good long while (I do 1:43 mostly), but I saw this kit a my LHS at the weekend and as it was pretty cheap thought I'd have a build. I also wanted an excuse to try the new Zero Paints Ferrari base coats and 2K clear system. The finished car will be Tour de France blue mica with a crema interior. How long it will take to build I can't guess, with a seven week old baby in the house my modelling time is quite limited:lol:

So far the body has been cleaned up, blocked with 1500 grit paper and given a good coat of Mr Surfacer 1500, a fantastic laquer based micro filler and primer. That's then been flatted out with 4K grit paper to provide a base for the colour coats when the paint arrives from Hiroboy.com.

Great! That's the first 599 on AF, the shape seems pretty accurate for me, nice start! Please keep us posted! I'm still waiting HK hobbyshop to have this stunner in stock!

2nd... I already posted one in progress. And it might even be the third, if you include the kit review.

Quick update, the Zero paint arrived today (excellent service from HiroBoy there!). Couldn't resist, so I've layed down eight coats of Tdf blue Mica on all of the body work with the exception of the butresses. I've painted the inides of those, I'll do the outsides tomorrow before I lay down the clear coats. I'm so impressed with Zero's paints, easy to spray and a top quality finish.

Is this Fujimi or Revell?

Is this Fujimi or Revell?

It's a Revell of Germany kit. I will also be doing a Fujimi 550 and 575 when they arrive from HLJ. Both will have 'interesting' colour schemes that echo the history of racing Ferrari's in the UK... but that's for other threads and later days!

Hi John that color is gorgeous!!! very unusual feeling comparing with the other stuff. But I'm also a little confused by the paint effect. Have you finished all the color coats? Or reflection something, I just feel it's a little bit uneven.

Nice progress!! I am glad to see what this paint looks like after application as I've recently received my order and wish to use it.:)

Thanks. The paint is excellent, the bet I've ever used. One think to make sure is that you use enough thinner in the clear coat. I was a little short so I got more orange peal than I wanted, but it polishes out OK with some micro-mesh.

Just a couple of pictures today showing clear coated paint being polished out.

Next time I should have some pictures of the completed body. I've got quite a lot of polishing to do first though!

Well, I'm sat here with my 8 week old trying to keep her entertained, watch a replay of ALMS race from St Pete and post some pics of my latest work! Finished polishing out the clear coat and added some ferrari shields from Model Factory Hiro. These are excellent and look so much better than decals, I can't fault them. Hopefully the picture below does them justice... being so small they are hard to photograph!

Started to work up the interior. The molding is pretty good, the detail level is quite high but it will take some detailed painting an carbon decalling.

Scale Motorsport rocks! The seat backs are getting covered with decal, and then given a couple of coats of gloss. The backs aren't glued on yet, but the photo should give you an idea.

Next is to finish up detailing the interior, and spray the black areas of the body work.

Are those the E-Jan stickers through Hiroboy, or are they his own? Either way, they look great.

I agree with SMS. I think that they revolutionized the hobby with there decals. I know others had them previously, but their's are far superior!

Keep it coming!

They are E-Jan from Hiroboy, I had thought they were MFH when I ordered them. Anyway, they are excellent.

On a similar subject the car isn't TdF blue, it's actually Le Mans Blue Mica. Not sure why I had TdF in my head... blame old age!!!

Not much progress to report. Just a couple of pictures of the interior this time. The seat backs are done and glued in place, the dash is done bar some minor decals and the tub is complete except for the center console. On the whole I'm pleased, the carbon on the dash isn't as good as I wanted... I tried doing it in one peice and I'm not sure that was the best idea in the end but I think it will look OK once it's in the car.

Next job is to spray the satin black sections of the body now the clear is fully hard.
