97 gtp starts than dies...

hey,

I have a 1997 Grand Prix GTP and it died on me last night. Everytime I would start the car, it would die whithin approx. 4 seconds. I hear the fuel pump turn on, than shuts off after the car stops. I brought it to a mechanic but they couldn't diognoze it because something about a security on the car wouldn't allow it. I guess something shuts off the fuel supply everytime the car starts. Any one had this problem before? I would appreciate any help...

A common problem with GTPs is a bad fuel pump resistor. See tech procedure in link below to bypass it for troubleshooting purposes.

A bad resistor can be confirmed by running a check of fuel pressure.

Thanx bnaylor... I found my fuel pump resistor to be defective, broken in half... thanx for your help...
