I just inherited my wifes 97 rs with a n/a 4g63. ihave noticed that the turbo version for the eclipse sits in the engine compartment ass backwards, but the evo 4g63 is mounted the same as the n/a engine. what I'm trying to fiing out is will this engine bolt into my n/a rs with breaking out the torches and welding rig and hacking the car to crap.

Um just to inform you really fast. The 1997 RS comes with the 420a chrysler engine. Not a 4g63NT. If you wife swapped a 4g63NT engine in there there is not way you have that engine. Also, putting a 4g63T EVO engine in a RS will take a lot of fabrications. Think for a second. A FWD non turbo car with different engine and transmition to a AWD car that has a completly different assembly. You gonna need a engine, electrical harness, transmittion, transfer case, intake manifold, rear deferential, lots of fabrications on the rear of the car and tons and tons of money and more parts.
If I was you, just give the RS for a downpayment on a new EVO and you are done :).

OR just turbo the RS and have a GST. Its cheaper, and can be done for about $800. Thread is on DSM tunners and some one on here also turboed there GS. Good luck

So let me get this straight, you have a RS with a 4g63 swap? Are you sure about that? Why would someone do a 420a for a n/a 4g63? It doesn't make sense at all. Anyone wouldve gone a full 4g63 turbo build. Any pics?

EDIT: Damn you beat me to it son.

 He was just mistaken guys, NT 2g DSM's are the 420a as Eclipse4Ever said. To back him up, swapping in a Evo 4g63 (or DSM 4g63 for that matter) is going to cost enough where you should just get an Evo and have the better handling, warranty, etc.

sorry was miss informed by my dumbshit kid brother. my hot rodding exp. is from old chevys and diesel engines, and an 85 crx si when i was in highschool, back in 95 before the rice rockets got popular, and i totaled it. but i did some research on my own and from help from you guys ive got it straight. it is a 420a.

back in 95 before the rice rockets got popular.

Please don't use that word or words around here. Thank you. As for your other forum about turboing the RS, there's a thread on www.2gnt.com in the tech articles by GSGoinFast. He turbo'd his GS for a little under $1k, check it out.

Welcome to the forums, and no offense taken at the rice rocket comment (especially since the fastest "rr" DSM ran a 6 at the quarter mile, we've grown more or less immune to the term:icon16: ).

But yes, like all the others said, that motor swap has never been documented, and wont be worth the time and money you pour into it, unless you are doing it entirely for novelty's sake. The most popular straight swap folks do in the DSM community, is swapping out the 7-bolt 4g63 turbo motors for the earlier 6-bolt ones. No real power gains just from the swap itself, but they are a viable upgrade since the earlier blocks are less prone to crankwalk.

Ease up Killer, he's new to the 4cyl scene. And none offense taken to the rice rocket comment, but that term is so loosely thrown around nowadays I just get sick of hearing it.
