1996 Jetta GLS rear speaker replacement

I purchased some new Kenwoods that I plan on putting in the back to replace the stock rear speakers. I now have the rear speakers out, but have a question. Is the casing that is around the rear speakers removable? I'm assuming the grill is attached to this casing so I'm wondering if the speaker comes out of the casing so I can use them for my new speakers.
