Im guessing that, that is a broken leaf spring, as you can see in the first picture part of it is hanging from its original postion, The right side is still in tact, but part of the thing is split, the left side is ok and in fine shape..

My question is, is there anything i can do to fix this? I talked to a welder who said i shouldn't weld it cause it would just break off....i don't know what else to do besides replace it, and that would cost too much. I don't know what else to do.

Thanks for you're time,
Justin

Those springs are actually fiberglass, so obviously you can't weld them . Replacement is your only option.

yes, it's definitely a leaf spring. I live in Flint, Michigan, and we have a place here that specializes in springs, and he carries an aftermarket version that is way cheaper than the GM dealer-only factory replacement. If you don't have such a shop in your area (you're near Chicago so it's highly probable), PM me and I'll get you the name and number.
