Different engines for one model 1991 Ciera?

I have a 91 Ciera, the engine has a huge 3300 on top, so it's a 3.3L, but the Chilton book I got talks about different engines for this model car, and NONE of the example pictures it contains look anything like my engine. Plus, for pretty much every repair listed in there, none of the descriptions/diagrams/walkthroughs match what it says I'm supposed to do with my engine.

For instance, I'm guessing my vehicle is a fuel injected model, not a carbureted one, but the Chilton book talks about DIS and C3I systems, and HEI systems. What is the difference, and how would I be able to tell?

I have ordered an owners manual for this year/make/model from the internet, but worry that even after I get it, it won't pinpoint specifically what my engine is. Could someone make a recommendation to a poor wannabe backyard mechanic? Thanks!

DIS, C3I, HEI are all ignition systems, not the type of fuel injection system you have. Which by the way incase you didn't know is Multi-Port fuel injected. Your chiltons has no section listed for the 3300?

I think the 3300 has the DIS ignition system, with the ignition module mounted to a bracket, and the coil packs sitting atop it.

If I were you, I would look on eBay for a service manual for your car. Their much more specific than Haynes or Chiltons is.

Just curious-Does your ashtray fall out because of those plastic tracks too? Or is it just mine..

I had a 1991 Cutlass Ciera from 1995 to last fall. It had a 3300 engine that wasn't touched and didn't use oil until I scrapped the car at 383,000 Km. My GM Service Manual was put to good use on various repairs, but never on engine! If you have a specific question, I could probably look it up in the manual.:)
