1992 mitsubishi eclipse 1.8 L HELP PLEASE!!

Hi i bought a 1992 mitsubishi eclipse 1.8 L my problems started the first week after i bought it .i drove it for about aweek and it ran great i turned it off after driving it one day and it would not start back up well i was getting no fire to the plugs so i replaced the dist.and the cap ,wires, plugs,well still no fire so i replaced the computer and i did get it started up but it ran really bad.i checked the timing belt and it was shot so i replaced it well it took awhile of working on it to find all the timing marks and to get them set right
now it starts up and runs good idles good but now it is burning gas to lean if i drive it it acts like its flooding out and i can smell gas really bad as long as it sets and idles seems to run and idle good but i can still smell gas and it is also smoking white smoke but not really bad.but i can,t seem to figure this out it,s been a month and a half now and i,m at my wits end with this car i,m ready to light a match to it.if i didn,t have so much money in it i would any help would be great thanks, Steve

that sounds a lot like my 92 laser. It has a hard time starting up in the morning, and after I let it sit for more than a 1/2 hour, it acts like the engine is flooded. When I am at a drive through or a stop light my car will start to spew smoke out the tail pipe, that smells kind of like a bbq grill. I noticed my gas mileage is a lot better on the highway than it is around town, I know it is suppose to be, but its nearly double on the highway. I myself don't have any idea what is going on, but as soon as someone does, I want to know about it.

Its funny, that that was the top item on the list, since that is exactly why i got on the forums tonight.
