Rear Spark Plugs

I have a '90 GP. How do I remove the back three spark plugs??? I can't see anyway to get to them. I've considered removing the wiper cowl assembly to gain access but don't know if that will allow me enough room. Anyone???

Remove the two front dogbone mounts. This will allow you to rock the engine forward for a little more working space. I use a crobar to pull the engine ahead, and use the parking brake to hold it there. You can also use one of the dogbones to hold the engine. If you leave the front side of the dog bone bolted, you can pull the engine ahead and slide the rear bolt through the dogbone eyehole and into the engine mount to hold the engine ahead. You should be able to see what i mean when you look at it. It doesn't give you much more space, but it's enough to do the plugs. :wink:

I would not use the "park" to hold the engine rocked forward. Make sure the car is in neutral, or else the engine wont rock forward enough to line up the special hole on the upper engine mounts. unbolt both dogbone mounts on the top of the engine. Leave them bolted to the front of the car. Flip the left one up and stick a crowbar into the aluminum mount where it bolted to on the engine. Then use the crowbar to roll the engine forward and use the right side dogbone mount's special eye underneath to bolt to so the engine stays forward. Kinda hard to explain, but it should be evident. Its still a PITA to change the plugs like that. MAKE sure to NOT crossthread the plugs. Use an extension and the plug socket and use your fingeres to get them started. I would also recomend a hair of antiseize on the upper threads. Dont get to careless, you dont want antiseize in the cylinders. This will eliminate possible gaulding when u have to replace them at the next tuneup.

I changed the plugs today and used your procedures and it worked just fine. Thanks!! I had changed the plugs on my girl's 98 lumina and I was laying across the top of the engine with barely enough room to reach the back three plugs. I didn't try the procedure with that one but when I pried the engine forward on the GP, I had all kinds of room compared to the Lumina. It was a piece of cake. Thanks again guys!!! :)

I went ahead and put new plugs and wires on mine yesterday when I was doing the rockers(might as well, you have to take the old ones out)... As hard as these cars are, they have nothing on a Lt1 or LS1 Camaro, trust me, now those really suck, there is no rocking the engine forward, its just a royal pain in the ass, takes a full Saturday to do it...

What a bitch, huh!? What happened to the days when engines were not transverse and you could actually get to the plugs from each side of the car instead of from front and back??? Thank goodness for this forum and all you guys with the mad skills to get shit done!!!:grinyes:
