Hub Assembly

Hello All,

Just wanted to know what tools I need to replace a hub assembly on a 97 Cav. I was told that I need a T-55 drive and a 30mm deep socket.
Is this correct? Do I need any other tools and are these the correct ones. I tried to get a 30mm, but the largest I could find was a 24mm. Is there an imperial equivalent?

Anyway, if anyone out ther could help me, that would be great. I have a limited amount of tools and I really don't want to buy something that I cannot use.

Thanks Again
Dion

the 30mm is a special one, just ask for 30mm axle nut socket. They have to be deep well to accommodate the shaft.

3/8th allen to remove the caliper.
Flat head screw driver to pry hub assembly away from the steering knuckle.
Hammer
Punch
High temp wheel bearing grease.

If you want to do this properly and put a new seal in the back, you can drop the lower ball joint, or remove the 2 18mm bolts from the strut to the steering knuckle and go that way.

I'm in Cortland, NY... if your around there. I can help....

Thanks for the info. Was going to start it esterday until I found out that I didn't have the one socket for it. Looks like it will have to wait until this weekend.
By the way, thanks for the invite. I live in Ontario, so a fair distance to travel. Too bad you were not a little closer, I would take you up on that offer!!
Let you know how it works out.

Hey All,

Just wanted to let you know that I managed to get my hub replaced this weekend. It took about 2.5Hrs to complete. Probably would have been faster if the axel nut wasn't being a pain. Anyway, just for the record, after I replaced the hub assembly, my ETS off light and Check Engine light finally went off. I hope it stays off!!
Thanks to all of you that helped out.

Dion.

P.S: If you have an extension bar to go on the socket, use it. My back is sore from just having a short handle!!

Impact and torque wrenches work wonders... ;)
