As an aside, for those that travel... is that you should avoid having large amounts of US currency getting near your luggage. Devices that are used by Border Control in a number of countries for random detection of contraband utilising swabs of the exterior of checked and carry-on luggage - these highly sensitive devices can detect traces of illict substances in the parts per million.
There are plenty of occasions where the swab indicates a positive result for cocaine but a physical search indicates a negative result - studies indicate that a large proportion of US currency at some stage is in contact with the stuff or with currency that has. Where luggage has been in contact with sums of currency this can result in positive results for traces of the stuff...

Dearest Adrian Blu Civic,
I am the President of the humble nation of Banlandia. We do not produce many exports in Banlandia for our terrain is rocky and barren. However beneath the surface is a wealth of diamond within the rock. 70% of our nation's diamond mines are under the ownership of Sir Fadrian Civic who has recently passed after being crushed under the weight of his diamond crown. He has no immediate family here in Banlandia and we have traced his family tree to discover that you are his 17th cousin twice removed and once put back. As his only living relative you are entitled to take over his diamond mines worth well over 65,000,000,000 USD. In order to take ownership of these mines all we need from you is your bank routing and account number.
Congratulations Mr. Civic,

i read a thing a while ago, and over here something like every £20 note that's been in circulation for a couple years, has traces of cocaine on it. London is also the world's heroin captial. it's believe that's an area known as the Green Lanes (that area alone) moves 2 metric tons of heroin per week.

Well remember before you go sniffing the stuff the concentrations are ppm so you'd have to construct a way of extracting and refining the stuff that would probably cost more than the stuff on the street - and probably destroy the currency in the process. Reminds of the fact that seawater actually contains dissolved precious metals but you'd have to evaporate an awful lot of it to get an ounce of fine gold.
Besides if you did go sniffing the stuff you'd probably get some sort of disease fairly quickly, the stuff is practically swimming in bacteria and filth.
As for currency, I move away from NZ for a year or so and when I come back it's got rid of 5 cent coins, changed the 10, 20 and 50 cents for smaller facsimiles of the original ones...
And the US has passed legislation to prevent the illegal export of pennies from US territory - appears that the metal content is actually now worth more than US 1 cent so there is a trade in exporting the things for scrap content so instead of getting rid of them (like the h'penny, farthing and thruppence) they've now made it illegal to deface, export or melt them for scrap.
