Ok I have a 97 Cavy Z24 and during cold starts it will start up fine, but after a minute or so the RPMs will drop down and it will start to stall, but then it catches itself and jumps the RPMs to about 2000, but then itll drop back down again and will do this a number of times before it finally runs fine, or it stalls. Giving it gas just makes it stall even worse, Ive completely cleaned my throttle body and put in a new IAC valve but the problem's still there. Once it gets warm it runs fine and if I shut it off when its warm and start it back up itll start fine. If anyone knows whats going on and can help Id greatly appreciate it. Thanks

possible vacuum leak??
Get small carb cleaner spray around throotle body when running to see if it surges. Check all vaccum lines. did you check fuel pressure ? Have you done a tune-up lately including fuel and air filters ? Just some thoughts.......

yes i checked for vaccum leaks and there arent any, ive fully cleaned to air intake and installed a new IAC sensor and fully cleaned the throttle boddy. I have now noticed since the weathers been warmer and ive had the windows down when its done this that it smells like gas when this happens so im figuring its running way too rich which is choking out the engine. Oh yea and it got a tune up in november, all new fluids, fliters, n plugs (minus fuel filter). Ill be putting a new fuel filter in this weekends as well as runa fuel system cleaner through the car. If that doesnt work Im going to replace the throttle position sensor, mass air sensor, and coolant sensor in that order since they are fairly cheap and from what ive been told its probably one of those. If anyone knows exactly what it is so I dont have to spend the money that woudl be great however. Thanks for any help

before you start changing parts ,why not take it to autozone for a free code scan . Maybe that will point you in the right direction. If you want to start changing parts don`t forget about the oxygen sensor.

Hey sorry its been a while but it was finals time at school, ok so I've replaced the fuel filter, idle control sensor, throttle control sensor, coolant sensor, air charge (air temp) sensor, ran fuel system cleaner through it, changed all the fluids, checked with a scan tool, checked for vacuum leaks, and checked the fuel pump and haev tried resetting my computer, I still have the same problem and am at a dead end. I do not even know where else to look. Thanks to those who have tried to help so far and if anyone knows anything else to point me in the right direction, please help.

TCC soleniod ???
He doesn't even have one. I wish people here would stop pointing at the TCC when they don't know the symptoms. They just know "its a problem on the cavaliers."
I digress....
IAC Valve/senor and a good throttle body cleaning?
