Don't see this one very often on the forum. According to numerous sources, it's pretty cut and dried. The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) has an internal failure and needs to be replaced.

If you haven't yet you could try disconnecting the battery a couple minutes and watch for the light to come back on. If it does you need a new PCM.

thanks ill try that...... i see a guy selling them on e bay and he sets it up with your vin# do u have to have the vin set up with this pcm i guess you would if you need to go to state inspection im in NY because if you get 1 from a junk yard it wont be set up ...the car runs perfect
also where would the pcm be located on this car

Thanks again

If the car is running perfect, and you just changed the battery, maybe the module it good, it's a computer, and computer modules sometime "hiccup". I would disconnect the battery too and reset the codes. Otherwise, maybe you just have a dirty connection going to the thing. Maybe when you changed the battery you somehow erased the ROM in the thing, and it lost your VIN. Also, removing the bulb from the dash will put out the "check engine" light. Maybe a piece of black electrical tape?....

I have to agree with your friend, it still runs good, why sweat the light? Another thing is if you replace the PCM, what's to say you won't get the same problem? Just pull out the bulb.
