Trans am is dead. Has something to do with the licensing of the name and GM doesn't want to pay that much.

and people were ignorant about its history.... what they shoulda done was actually take a grand prix and shove a big engine in.... oh wait, that's right, that's what the GXP is. Nevermind :D

There were several pictures like that I think in Hot Rod that were an artist concept once they saw the new Camaro. I would buy one of those the minute it was released. I know GM didn't like paying the royalties on the Trans Am name, but hell, if they can sell enough who cares?

What is there to be ignorant about? I know they're built in Australia or they're designed by an Australian company. The thing that I don't like about the GTO is that they just look like a Grand Prix (the last bodystyle). There is nothing special about them that stands out and makes you say "That is awesome". It looks nothing like the old GTO's. I think that other people probably think the same thing, that's probably why they are not flying out of the showroom. I remember about 10 years ago I saw a concept drawing of a GTO and it looked alot like the concept T/A. It also had a big honeycomb grill like the 66-67 GTO but, it kind of flared out alittle. Now that GTO people would buy.

I hope they don't build that 'Trans Am.'
If they do for some reason come out with a new 'Bird...make it original. Not a clone of the new Camaro with a screaming chicken on the hood.
And yeah...GM retired the Firebird namesake. As I understood it, that means they can't use it again. But the info I got could easily be wrong.

i'd imagine they might retire the name from use, but i'm sure they'd hold onto that trademark and keep the rights to the name.
with a car that has the kind of history the trans am does, no auto maker would want someone else to be able to use it.

monte carlo was out of circulation for a bunch of years and gm brought that one back. Could be possible, and I'd love to see a new t/a look like the original.
