Just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Troy, and I just got an 85 Olds 98 Regency. The car has been sitting for 8 year now, and I'm trying to get it to start and run. Hopefully I can find some good info and get answers to problems I'm having.

Well, i got it running. here's what i've changed. new water pump, battery, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, belts. new fuel filter, fuel pump, hoses, air filter. it fires up and runs well, but while driving, if you slam on the brakes and stop hard, it'll stall. normally let it sit for a minute, turn the key on and off a couple times and it'll start right up. it would stall while coming to a stop on a downward slope (front lower than the back), but it only had a couple gallons of gas in it. put another 5 in and that has stopped. could it still be low enough on fuel that when heavily braking the fuel sloshes to the front of the tank and not picking up at the pump?

also, the clock and radio reset them selves every time the car is turned off. none of the presets will remain after the key is off. the interior lights don't always work, the fuel gauge doesn't work, and the passenger side low beam headlight doesn't come on with the low beams, but it does with the high beams.

For the stall I'd clean the throttle body and iac. Try another sealed beam. Check all the fuses, check the door jamb switches also. Just good old fashion leg work tracking down these issues.

finally figured out what the problem was. needed a new gas tank. the new tank has a shroud around the pump where as the old did not. therefore the fuel ran away from the fuel pump at sudden stops. i'm now able to drive it til the fuel light comes on without any problems.
