91 Prelude SR

Yet another project started when I already have a ton that aren't even finished. Oh well, what can I say?
Anywho...... It's Fujimi's Prelude 2.0 Si. The idea is to turn it into my car... er... rather how I want my car to be once I have the $$ to do all the work.
The Plan: Modify front and rear bumpers to look like the 90/91 Prelude as opposed to the 88/89 Prelude. Cut open hood and headlights. Modify Revell B series engine to look like a H22 (The engine I want to swap into my car... get rid of the oil burning B21). Modify tail lights to look like the 90/91 tail lights. C/F hood, maybe C/F decklid (I'll end up with a C/F decklid on my car, but don't know yet weather I'll paint it or not). This kit actually has a really good body and interior, the chassis however is absolutely horrible. It's one of those ones intended for the motorized model, to make things worse, it's molded as RWD for a FWD car. So I think I may modify the Revell Integra chassis to get the underside. Preferably some Fujimi 17" TE37s if I can ever find any. Badges all shaved. Also some racing seats, and lots of other smaller details.
PICS!!!!!

Yehhhh!! Honda!!! :D
So the car on your avatar is your Prelude? I always thought it was an F355...o_O
So,to put an H22...The Revell civic 92-95 has a longer B series engine. At least I saw somewhere...Sooo...:p

HAHA, yeah sometimes these can sorta look like Ferrari's, they're also known as baby NSXs. I compared all the Revell B series engines, they're all pretty much identical. I've got reference pics of H22s so hopefully It'll all work. If anyone knows of a better source to use I'd appreciate it!

I like that gold one you got there. You can use the Integra B series engine from the revell kits. They look identical but the h22 in reality is a bit bigger. All you need to do is paint the valve cover black like the h22. I look forward to seeing this one.

actually they are quite different looking when you know what your looking at.
The B series dizzy is on the intake cam while the H series is on the exhaust cam. The alt is on the front of the H but it's on the back of the B, those are two big differences that are the easiest to notice other than the valve cover and shear size of the H motor

Nice to see one of these.
Too bad the fujimi chassis is that bad though.
I have been thinking of buying this kit since my first car was a Prelude 2,0i-16 4ws '88
Really nice cars but the rust killed mine..

I do gotta say I like these ludes all though I have never seen this one before. I found an '84 once so I bought it. I wanted it to look more like the 90-91 body style like you have there just like your doing. Nice rim choice as well, I hope this one goes well for you cause you really don't see these too often at all. here some possible inspiration for you, I built this one about 4 years ago now so it's a little out dated already (forgive the clears and exhaust, I was experimenting) but I think it does look like the newer body and not the '84-85 in which it came

Well... mine will be a bit more JDM styled. More subtle and clean. I'm not so much into body kits n stuff, unless it's a drift car.
Martin S, mine's rusting around the rear wheel wells. Hopefully after school next year I'll be getting that fixed. Once I find a good job I plan to completely strip it down and rebuild it from the ground up. Doing all the things I have planned at that time. It will get a new color too. I have no idea what color yet. I love the black, looks REALLY nice when it's clean, but black is IMPOSSIBLE to keep clean.

I simply LOVE the BA4 Prelude. i had a gunmetal 1991 model...hmmm, brings back memories. I think it's funny...I started the same conversion some time ago to represent my Prelude. Your thread gives me some boost to look at it again...Thank you.

Looks pretty nice! I see you attempted to do the 90/91 tail lights. That's probably going to be the hardest part of my build. I'm thinking I'm going to have to modify the kit tail lights, make a mold then cast them in clear resin. Thanks for sharing yours, it's the style I like... nothing excessively flashy.

thanks. i didnt really attempt to do the 90/91 tails, i just wanted the clear corner lens look for my car. that prellude i posted was already its third buildup. i went first with a european look (clear lenses, clean interior, hubcap wheels with a darker red shade.) second rebuild was a street racer, big wing and racing interior. it didn't fit with the car, stripped it again and rebuilt it as a clean JDM version. was gonna convert it to RHD but i can't find my RHD dash :(. i really didnt want to mess the clean look of the clear corner lenses so i kept it like that. :D
saw ur build up on the forums. :D great cars

I was thinking one of these two colors for my car. I kinda like the metallic olive green, but the candy apple red looks nice too. Pretty much any color of wheels would look good with both colors. Keep in mind I will have a c/f hood and possibly c/f deck lid and possibly a black roof.

Well, I know there's not a lot of interest in this build, but this is what I'm thinking of doing for the engine bay. The layout of late 80s to mid 90s Honda engine bays is fairly similar, so with some modification this bay should work decently. I still have to cut off the integra interior, that's why it's sitting kinda funny.

It's back ordered right now, but this is where I got mine frome. http://www.hlj.com/product/FUJ03712
rod_k2 I do plan on useing the integra chasis, but haven't started on it yet. The length from wheel well to wheel well is almost perfect, so it's mostly the front and rear of the chasis that will need work. I might end up doing mostly scratch building for the engine bay. Depends on how well the integra bay will really work. Thanks guys!

The deep green looks good on the Civic hatchback. That car was feature on one of Honda Tunning's magazine issue. I thought it was a type of gray until i read it was green and look a real good long look. I like how he combined it with white wheels. Looks stock but with a sporty look. Thats how I like'em.

Another good source for the engine bay would be tamiyas Prelude, its an older (84ish) one with full detail. Engine bay and undercarrige detail should be close, and much better than any old Fujimi chassis!

Sorry man, this summer has been so nuts for me I haven't really had time to do much of anything. I wanted to at least have my S2000 painted before it got to cold to paint, but it doesn't look like that's gonna happen either. The good news is, that this project is still quite a ways away from primer and paint and I'll be able to work on it even when it's cold outside. So hopefully things will settle down form me a bit here in the near future and I can get back to working on some of these projects. Thank you very much for your interest though. I LOVE these cars too. I don't want to ever not own one. They're so much fun to drive.

Yeah, I actually am on preludepower.com! My screen name there is 91SR (real creative, I know) I take it that's your lude in your sig. Looks very nice!! I think I've actually seen it on there before. As for how I'm going to lower this thing... well, I haven't gotten around to that yet, but it'll probably be different than you would normally lowere it since I'm probably gonna be useing the Revell Integre underbody. But probably the best way for the stock parts, would be to cut chunks out of the pins that the wheels attach to and move them to the other side so that the hubs are actually moved up a bit. Not sure if that made much sense. But that's probably what I would do.

The Revell Integra chassis is going to be much smaller than the car, just like you found the Revell Integra engine bay to be. Why not use the Fujimi's Integra chassis? It isn't as detailed, for sure, but would be a better jumping off point than the incorrectly detailed (for a Prelude) Revell one. It's a generic FWD chassis, so it would lend itself better. It would make it a little more difficult to use the Revell's engine bay, but with the amount of modification you'll have to do, scratch work won't be that much more of an issue.
energon
09-11-2007, 12:03 AM
yeah, the chasis actually fits fairly well, it's a bit too short. But I dunno, I'll probably end up useing something else. I've already decided not to use the Revell engine bay, and do some scratch building there instead. But there probably wont be much happening on this thing for a while still. So I've got some time to think about how I'm going to go about this. But thanks very much for the support and sugestions. You guys are making me want to get right back into this, I'm just a little too busy right now. If only there were 10 more hours in each day.
