how rare IS this?

I know it's not a HIGH quality kit as it's typical late '70s AMT, but I need it for my rabbit pickup project. if anyone has a spare body laying around, I could use it too.

It's somewhat rare; they turn up on the 'bay every now and then.

has there ever been a re-issue? this is the exact year model I'm looking for to build my first car....a VW SPORT TRUCK!!!! hehehehehe and if everything works out right, I hope to make a resin transkit, or just cast the entire body, chassis, interior tub, and rear bumper.

I see it on ebay a lot, does anyone know if it has engine detail?
It is a little rare, usually i see it go for 20-35 on ebay.

If you can't find this kit, just get a fujimi since they're still in production.

This has not been reissued, and they do show up from time to time, and not for terribly high prices (unlike Corrado kits).

I have the AMT Scirocco, decent amount of detail. The wheels/tires are particularly tiny. 1/25 scale is just wrong for model like this, but it is a really neat kit. Saw a beautiful restored Scirocco Mk I last year, haven't seen one as nice as that in decades.

It does have an engine. But if you are just using the kit for frankensteining purposes, I suggest getting a few fujimi versions. They're not half bad. And even better for projects like making a Rabbit Truck. Good luck on this.

Was the Rabbit PU a US-built (Westmoreland plant) vehicle that was not produced elsewhere? IIRC the Rabbit PU's had rectangular headlamps. If that's so, you already have to modify either the AMT or Fujimi kit. I also think using the Fujimi GTI Mk I is best for cutting/hacking. Get two of them so you have enough similarly-shaped material to lengthen the body behind the doors.

You won't get far with "Rabbit" @ HLJ, that's a US-only name. They're called Golf everywhere else.

Heh..ebay has 3 on one auction...Either kit would be fine. Depending on how detailed you want the final product to turn out. After all, as Will said, every kit sucks anyway;)

The 'Rabbit' PU, otherwise known as the 'Golf Caddy' was built at several other plants around the world.

The pickup also came with rounds.. Not only the westy type front end.

yeah, mine had the dual beam rounds (only 2 round headlights) with out the side markers on the front fenders, or on the rear 1/4 panel. however when I was involved in an accident, I had to change over to the square lights as it was the only parts available.

that pic I posted in the other thread seems to be much higher than all that I have seen, is it 4wd? that would be sweet for some racing!!

as for lengthening the sides/rear for the bed, it shouldn't be a big deal any way you look at it, since there are no rounded panels on the car. I will however, most likely, use 2 bodies for the modifications.

from everything that I have seen the pickup is just that, pickup, not rabbit, golf, or anything else. just pickup, oh, unless it's the sport truck.

Hi im from south africa, and they are indeed still in production here, infact i owned one a couple of months ago. they are called the caddy here, and we also produce the new caddy as shown above. the pickup and the mk1 golf/rabbit's also still produced here, and still as popular as ever.

as far as body detail is concerned, the fujimi kit is excellent, however there is no engine. good luck on your build, i cant wait for it, you can put me down for one of your resin copies

it now comes with one piece windows and corner mirrors, also has a new dash, with an indigo golf 4 style speedo cluster. as you can see on the pic it has new bumpers and the front grille and the fenders/front wings are slightly different aswell
