1994 Grand am gt 3.1l
Today I noticed when I stopped fairly hard then step on the gas it feels like the transmission is in nuetral. I did this twice and the second time I held the gear shift thinking it might have slid forward but it didnt move. It doesnt do it if I come to a stop slowly.
Any ideas?

check the fluid level and change the filter. It sounds like the trans may be hunting between gears when changing speeds quickly which could be caused by slow fluid transfer through the system.

I think your 94 GA has the 3T40 which is prone to TCC failure.
If your fluid level is ok, then you might check this link out.
