I'm considering taking my 96 Geo metro 3-speed auto (1.3L) down to panama city and i'm wondering what kind of trouble i'm going to run into driving the engine at 4000 rpm for 20 hrs. i'm thinking my problems will arise from the tranny if anything. basically, will i be stuck in alabama for a week waiting for new parts?

I have no answer for your specific query, but since your car (like mine) is over 10 years old and likely has over 100,000 miles, it would be prudent to check the AT fluid level before the trip and make a visual inspection of the transmission case for leaks.

Probably not what you wish to hear, but slowing down so the engine *doesn't* turn at 4,000 RPM might make things easier on your Geo.

The guy I got my 94 Geo 1.0 5 Speed from drove the car from TN to RI 3 Times without a single problem... I installed a Geo Tach cluster in it after I got the car it runs at about 2800 RPM, Doing 70 Mph in 5th Gear. You have a 4 Cyl motor so I doubt you'll have any problems if the car is in good running shape? Are you sure it's running at 4000RPM At cruisng speed on the Hwy (70 Mph)....? Sounds kinda high, even for a 3 speed Auto trans.

thank you for your responses, yeah unless there is something wrong with my trans, it has a habit of running at 4000 at 70-75, I wish it were manual. as it turns out I may have found a different vehicle for the job so my geo metro can stay in it's Metropolis.
