So the small square in the middle is metal while the whole chasis is plastic? Interesting, seems like a nice kit for a hefty price.

Wrong. I'm sure there will be something not right about it. I like the body style of this car, but the interior looks a little sparse. I am not totally familiar with this car, will it come in other decal options?
Mike.

My fujimi S13 has better detail than that car. pffft who needs "authentic feel" to the weight of the car? that extra added weight will just make things break off faster when it slips out of your hand and hits your hobby table.
body looks great though, and I think it will make a great SHELF model or toy, but it won't win any box stock contests. and the price... you'll have to spend 3 times as much on detailing parts just to make it pass as a decent build at any contest.
tamiya has really lost some points with me. not that many other new releases are very popular with me right now.
my opinion...thumbs down. don't waste your money.

Cool, body looks great... However, Tamiya is really going down hill, with all the engine details ignored with the SuperGT kits.:shakehead

I think the kit looks fabulous from the outside, great detail in the wheels, wing, body etc....
worse part for me isnt the chassis..... if u guys have seen the picture on the site of the interior.... it looks like the dashboard detail is all from decal.... im not sure if its true but i surely hope not..

Such a statement shows that many people completely missed the point of the issue with the diecast underpanel. For me it was never the material used, rather the "dumbing down" of the kit. This looks like a continuation of the new Tamiya path. A real shame, as Tamiya still make the crispest, finest fitting and most accurate moldings. Even if we blindly follow their obvious, evil, money loving plan and purchase the additional detail kit, we are left with an inferior standard to that of a few short years ago.
But hey, I don't care. At least Tamiya are still in the car model buisness, for a while there it looked like they weren't interested in us. If the subject is interesting I'll still buy it, 'cause Tamiya are still cheaper and more detailed than most resin kits! :)

I love the looks of the car. I'll buy and build one but I'm not crazy about the molded detail left off of certain parts that have to be replicated with PE.
As for the diecast insert, seems to me that if the extra weight is something you don't want, pehaps "you don't have to insert" the diecast insert. The plastic chassis may work just fine without it.

The reason for the diecast chassis on recent Tamiya kits, which I'm sure I've mentioned before on this forum, is because (so I'm told by the editor of Tamiya Model Mag), its so the model can be mounted to a base for the pre built range.

The interior is the most basic one I have ever seen on a Tamiya kit! They found a new way to bring down the details.
Will wait to see if there is some kind of resin upgrade kit for the interior

Tamiya's new path is bollocks really! Unfortunately, they seem to be continuing down this blind path.
I remember people were moaning (myslef included) when Tamiya used metal axles in their kits, such as the 350Z and Impreza, and said that they were skimping on detail...how foolish were we?
I long for the days of the old Tamiya kits... Nissan R390, Porsche 911 GT1, Mercedes C-Class DTM's.... Will they ever go back to a good ol' detailed kit??

what about the 20-year-old kits like the M635csi? i have never seen detail like it. not only is it a full-detail kit but the mouldings are amazing. and my kits (i have two M635csis) were made in '86.
i'd like to see a return to that kind of detail in kits. especially since the market is constantly growing, and people want more detail. look at the amount of PE and other detail parts we buy.

Rightly said. Them old GT1 kits where full of detail... and they where GT1 cars :grinyes:
C'mon Tamiya, smack us in the face with a good DBR-9/ Ferrari 550 GT1/ koenigsegg CCGT or even a 430 gt2.
Well I must say Revell sucks as well. Ok them new kits are better crispier produced. But the German C6-R which is said to be the 2006 version is a right copy of the US 2005 version. No new BBS rims, no LM full windows, no better real difuser and no back tail grill ( the mess on the black under part of its ass)... You call it a 2006 version? Don't make me laugh :banghead:

It will be offered as a pre-built, ready-to-display model. I seriously think a lot of their engineers went to work for Fujimi.

Nope- it means that Tamiya can mount it when they built it. Over the last few years, Tamiya seems to have had some success with their prebuilt series of kits (http://www.tamiya.com/english/products/masterwork/index.htm). (No, we're not buying them, but they appearently have a good market somewhere, and it's making Tamiya money). As such, Tamiya has been designing many of their kits over tha last couple of years with features that make them easier to build and mount for their in house builders. Take a look at the Carrera GT- the brake/wheel design was a departure for Tamiya. The calipers and rotors are seperate parts- because it makes them easier and quicker to paint for the in house guys. The myserious hex shapes on the underpan are to hold hex nots to bolt it down to a base. So the diecast plate on this one also is a feature to make things easier for the prebuilders.
Man I love to hear you people whine about new releases, and bemoan the long lost good ol' days of yore!  I have both the 911GT1 and the M635CSi- both are terrific kits, both will make magnificent builds! I couldn't care less about what Tamiya is putting out now. :grinno: Have you guys built everything already?

I know Revell is one of a kind (Revell USA is just a step for Revell Germany to the USA) But with the old C5-R 2000 LM was USA version and the 2001 LM the german version with updated kit.
They say with the C6-R Germany kit that you can reproduce a real 2005 LM/ALMS AND 2006 LM version... Only included decals for 2006 in the USA kit. Which is just a version of the pre ALMS real car, with decals for ALMS/LM 2005... So they are just as guilty as Tamiya :p

A mysterious, rarely seen band of elf creatures who live high atop Tokyo Tower. They live on juniper berries and rainwater captured atop their dish shaped heads. They build like crazy, and are suspected of carrying out other unknown 'errands' for Tamiyasama. :uhoh:
Why, want a job?
I believe it's a group of commercial artists that mainly builds the prebuilt line, but the same group also likely does build for the catalog, show displays and such. From what I understand, it's a frustrating job for people who would build models as a hobby- everything has to be build exactly out of the box and following the instructions. But if you can read and speak proficient Japanese and can work legally in Shizuoka Prefecture, you may be able to join them.

The SC430 seems to have virtually no interior detail...it looks just like the Xanavi/Calsonic 350z they came out with, which takes roughly 15 minutes to build.
Getting back to the prebuilt kits...has anyone out there bought one, and what's the quality like? They seem to be really well priced if they are truly hand-built.
p.s. I'm working on a Tamiya McLaren SLR right now and it's an ugly car, but the kit is fantastic, tons of details to keep you busy.

Hi guys,
I'm going to build the SC430. I've found lots of reference pictures, but none of them are from the cockpit.
Does someone has pictures of the interieur of the real car?
The cockpit from tamiya is indeed very easy, so I'll try to add some more detail myself.
Thanks in advance!
