i've got a 2000 altima and the air is acting crazy. usually it will blow abnormally warmer air after i hit the ac button and the air will blow harder, not colder. usually it will take the air around 15-20 mins to get cold and then it will vary in how cold it gets, it never stays the same temp all the time. does that sound like low freon or a bad compressor or what?

Did you ever get an answer to the 2000 nissan AC problem. My AC has been doing this for over three years now, and it gets worse every summer. I have had it looked at by two or three mechanics. the compressor and freon have been tested to no avail. Did you ever figure it out?

sounds like your cars need a thermistor, its located in the evaporator box.

a thermistor? okay...does this description also agree with that diagnosis? The only possible predictor of whether the AC will work on any given day, tends to be the humidity level. If it is humid or raining, the AC is less likely to work. It has been unseasonably dry and hot lately, but the AC has worked almost every day this week. (This by the way, is a big pain when the windows are fogging up, because that is usually a no-AC day.) The shops have checked the usual culprits...the compressor, the relays they can get to easilly, etc. . Is the thermistor really a part I have never heard of or thermostat with a typo :) thank!!!!!!

thermostat with a typo :)
THE THERMISTOR IS A PROBE LOCATED AT THE EVAPORATOR TO MONITOR EVAPORATOR TEMPATURE. THEY WILL GO IN AND OUT OR NOT WORK AT ALL. PART #27675-9Z000. ALSO KNOWN AS AC AMP OR THERMAL AMPLIFIER. IF THE REST OF THE SYSTEM CHECKS OUT OK AND THE PRESSURES ARE OK, I'D GO WITH THIS. IVE REPLACED MANY OF THESE OVER THE YEARS.

Hello Nissandoc,
You say you have changed alot of these over the years. I have a 2000 Frontier 4cyl and I'm hoping that it has one of these Thermistors too. Have you ever changed one on a 4cyl Frontier and does it require pulling the dash off to do it? I have been having this same problem and would like to try replacing this before having to pay big bucks to have everything replaced.
Thanks,

I have a 2002 Xterra and have been having many issues with my AC
The compressor would go in and out and when the compressor turned on it would sqeal
I took it in to a lcoal mechanic
They chaned a few parts liek the dryer and the compressor because they siad it was leaking
I got it back and no squealing and it seemed to work unitl that afternoon and it was abck to in and out you could hear the compressor trying to kick in.
The air was blwoing out warm. Then it would finally cool down in an hour or so.
They shop stated that it possibly could be this apmilifier thing but they were closign and would have to change it on Monday.
I got home and said I can't go all weekend with it acting this we with the Florida heat.
I went to the local nissan dealership and picked up 27675-9Z000 amplifier. It was 56 bucks with Tax. I opened it and it is 2 wires with a thermostat at the end. Wow expensive for a little part.
After about 30 minutes or so I got it changed out.
It now works like a charm.
Thank you

makes you wonder if you really needed the compressor and drier doesnt it? always research the repair shop that you're gonna take it to before you do it. to include the dealership.

Nissan doc was dead on! Bought the thermistor from Courtesy Nissan in Texas via email. Cost was less than both dealers in OC and did not require two visits for the special order. Six screws drops the glove box and facia out of the way. The evaporator is is about the size of a coffee can. You can see the thermistor's two wire pigtail coming out of the evaporator cover where the top and bottom meet. Remove the two formidable looking screws on the floor. Remove two more screws on the cover and release the two clips and the bottom half of the cover slides down. Remove the old thermistor and put in the new one. It is a pressure fit between the fins of the evaporator. Hook up the wire plug. Put it back together. Congratulate yourself on saving $250 in labor at the dealer. It's Miller time!
