Hello to all,

With all the hoopla regarding sludge in the Toyota engines I was wondering if my 89' 4 cylinder might need a good flushing? At one dealership I paid to have the "Belstein" treatment done on it but never was I told exactly why. Now that I'm thinking about it I realize the sludge problem has gone on for a long time and we were never told about it.:banghead:

My 89' four bangers been uterally reliable including the transmission and with well over 200K I intend to keep it until parts aren't available for it.:grinyes:

Question, Has anyone known or had this same service done on theirs in the past also? I don't mind having it done as my cars a keeper.:grinyes:

If you (or previous owners) have changed the oil regularly (and often enough based on the type of oil used) then you have no need for an engine flush. Keep changing it and enjoy your vehicle.

The only Camry model years that had the sludge problem were from 1997 through 2001 for the 4 cylinder engines and from 1997 through 2002 for the 6 cylinder engines. You don't have to worry about this problem for your 1989 Camry 3SFE 4 cylinder engine.:)

I read on the internet that other toyota models have suffered the engine sludge problem.:frown: Toyota must have been taking lessons from American auto makers. :disappoin

I myself have been tempted to put seafoam in my 1989 Camry 3SFE 4 cylinder engine and run the engine for around 15 minutes right before I change the oil. I read somewhere in this forum that it does a good job at cleaning the inside of the engine. I don't know if it would be that benificial to the engine.:dunno:

Brian, JOET,

Thank you both for your responses. I won't worry about the flushing if the problem been only in those years engines. I do change mine regularly.
