The power steering pump on my car came with an EVO on it. I'm not sure if that pump was the right onefor my cutlass. I hope it's not the right one, but how could I check if it is? Does anyone have a part number?

It sounds like this is related to your other post concerning the wiring harness. The electrical connector color coded blue/red goes to the EVO actuator for variable assist steering. The actuator is located or supposed to be located at the bottom of the power steering pump. Most GM N body cars with the 3100/3400 engines come with this option. There are two power steering pumps available.

Again, correct me Bob if misguided here, but is not a Cutlass a W body?

I really don't know which one he has since it wasn't stated in the post Shep. For 1997 the Cutlass was an N and W body. Remember the downsized Cutlass sister to the Malibu was produced from '97-'99. Had he stated it was a Cutlass Supreme I would have mentioned W body. But the pic I showed is applicable to any Cutlass of that year that has a 3.1L VIN "M" and variable steering.

Thanks!!! BUT how or where could I find a new EVO for my power steering pump. The old one is not working and my ABS light comes on. Also would that cause my power steering to get hard?

Yes, a defective EVO would cause hard power steering. The EVO actutator is controlled by the ABS module which is commonly referred to as the EBCM module so that may explain the ABS light. It looks at the wheel sensor signal to make the steering either hard or soft. Soft (more assist) at low speeds and hard (less assist) at higher speeds for better road control and stability.

You should be able to get the part at most national auto parts stores or the GM dealer. Also, a salvage yard. Let me know if you need a source for GM/AC Delco parts.

Could it also be called an Variable EffortSteering (VES) Solenoid or is that somthing else. I looked at GM Parts and AC Delco parts and there is no PART NUMBER!!!! I also found out that maybe it's called Power steering ACTUATOR. Not sure but is GM part #26071766 the right p/n? I looked at the GM part and it dose'nt give any PICS....
