Transmission fluid issue

Hey
I just got a 2000 impala 3.8 from my dad. While driving it, I heard the engine rev high (there's no tachometer on the car, damn GM and their stupidity) on the car before the car would shift, LATE SHIFTING. Sometime, you could feel the car jerk when it shifts gears. I decided to check the fluid and I found 3 irregular things.
1. the fluid was light yellow. I've never seen that before, espicially considering that the trans fluid in my basement is red (i'm not sure what my dad was using).
2. it was over filled by a liter or so. I don't know if that's a good idea.
3. it has bubbles in it, which I was told could be a bad pressure valve. Some people told me it was a clogged vent in the trans, OR too much fluid in the trans. I don't know if that's true or not.
What do you think of those 3 things and what could be causing this late and rough shifting.

The fluid might be a synthetic, i have used some clear-ish in color before, your not supposed to mix the two. red vs clear
You should never over fill your trans fluid.
I had a similar problem with a Dynasty. I took might to a shop and had them do a power flush. They will push oil through the transmission. This removes any debris that could be in the trans bocking valves and passages. They should also change your oil filter which should be changes every 2 or 3 years. Cost will vary but i paid about $70 and it fixed my problem.

bad flush...
do a fluid change, and make sure that you put the right stuff in.
dont let any "old timer" tell you that a different fluid will fix your problems.

You say this was your dad's car? Did he have it serviced on a regular basis? If so, you should talk to the shop and see if they would recommend a flush or a change since they would know the cars history. Some GM transmissions were not designed to have a fluid or filter replacement for exp: Saturn Ion or Vue 5 spd auto. These need special tools to be serviced. You may want to talk to a tech at a dealership.
