This has to be the worst kit in the history of the world ever. It is the 1953 Fird Pickup from Ertl, street machine version. The only thing that I liked about it is the body. The rest is poorly molded, has little detail, it fits horribly. I cannot even describe how silly some of the molding is on some of the parts. There were pock marks, wavy sections of hills and valleys, little "ckicken pox" nubs all over them, and where the parts connected to the trees was so thick that it seemed like I was carving the peices from scratch. I got so tired of this kit that I didnt even put half the parts on it.
Anyway, most of the frame was scratch built. The wheels and tires are from a funny car kit, and the scoop is from Monograms `70 Challenger kit. I used duplicolor laquer spray for the finish. Be very careful with this stuff! Some of the peices I had sanded off the primer down to the bare plastic, and when I sprayed the duplicolor spray on it, the parts became "gummy" like chewing gum. I learned though, from now on I will try to use duplicolor sprays as my first choice since it goes on so well. In my opinion, this stuff is easily better than plastikote, testors, or (and I know this could be blasphemous here) Tamiya.
Tell me what you think:

Paint looks fab and the fitment of the hood looks fine - i'm assuming it can be removed!? Not bad at all considering the shit u put up with to build it.

As far as I can tell from the pictures, you did a very good job, I can't see where the problem is.:smoker2:

the only thing that I don't like is the way the wheels/tires look, especially in the first pic, the front wheels are tucked way too far in. Other than that, it looks great. :)

Thanks guys. I painted the body before anything else, so it was the only thing I took my time on. I really lost interest in this one fast, which is why half the peices are missing and the wheel and ride height aren`t quite right.

i dont know what you talking bout i had fun with this truck

Maybe I just got a bad one? The kit, judging from the box art, is pretty old. Maybe the re-released it in that time, and you have a re-release? I don`t know. I don`t build to many AMT models.

Holy Crap! What a Fecking chunk! That looks sick, do another one :D! My friend has a 1956 Chevy Street Machine Truck, its a bitch considering it was built in 1996. Have you got a photo of the 70 Challenger? Or of the box? I really want one of these, I wouldn't mind one in real life either ;) Ignore these others opinion on the wheels, it looks fine, like a real drag truck actually because why would you bother having back lights on a drag car? Which funny car kit did you get the wheels/tires from aswell? All in all I think it came out bloody awesome!

Here are some pics of the Challenger I took this from. I actually posted these pictures before, and I think I have more at my webpage (check the link in my sig). I wouldn`t mind having a real one of these either. It is my favorite muscle car. I already built about 5 of these kits, and have seven more in storage.

For a model with a lot of problems you did an excellent job on it.

AMT's '67 GTO!!!This has to be the worst kit in the history of the world ever. That statement would apply to that kit as well!!! I built one for one of the youth that I counsel and although he was pleased with it, that kit was a piece of @#$%^&!!! I couldn't bring myself to post pics of it was so bad!! Please beware of this kit!!!

At first, I thought you were asking me to stop building. :frog: Are you having trouble getting ahold of one of these kits? They are about a dime a dozen up here for the re-releases. The extra ones that I have are all still factory sealed from the 1984 issue, so I`m not planning on letting go of them anytime soon. :toothless :stormzap: :silly:

I got it last week. It is a nice replica. It adds some diversity to my collection. You are talking about the one from BMOM, right? How did you know I was in that? I didn`t think anyone would remember enough to bring it up in another post.

Yeah, I am having alot of trouble finding a good challenger in Australia, I looked in my main hobby store and they said that no one they know of in NSW(my state) still orders them. I wouldn't want to take any factory sealed 84 versions off you! they will be worth alot in a couple years. I just want a Challenger, do you mean they are a "dime a dozen" for a newer release of it? Damn Australia! Its all John Howards fault!
I remembered about the Impala because I entered my bomby stang into this months one thinking they were giving it away again, because I love Impalas. I will enter A better car early next year, maybe my Calsonic Skyline drifter.....Time will tell, or an FC RX7...Or a Challenger ;)
