How to glue/join hood latch rods

Help!
The hood latch mechanism on my 96 is broken. After finally opening it up with a broomstick (long story here), I found that the rod linkage that connects the driver side latch broke at the weld where the two rods attach. So, when I pull the release from the interior, only the passenger side unlatches, and I have to carefully insert a broomstick from the Passenger side (with the hood pulled up a few inches) to push the driver side latch release manually. It took me several hours to figure this out by the way. Anyways, I tried to glue these rods back together with no luck and I did get duct tape to work for a while, but it eventually slipped. I just tried JB Cold Weld, and no luck there.

How do I get these things to go back together? Is there a better glue?

If it broke at the weld, have it welded. Go and catch a decent, but not big shop about a 1/2 hour before closing and ask about it...

I used a technique like this and paid $20 for welds to my exhaust.
