GTP as new car?

thats where im coming from, please give it a quick skim
no one mentioned the gtp, but in my own research i found many way within my price range with lower km's anything from 50-100,000 km
quick 0-60, seems to get better mpg then a 4.6l v8 mustang
but yea u guys live in these cars just figured id get ur opinions based on reliabilty and if its a solid car, rattles and shakes
im mechanically inclined, all work on this would be done by me...except big things like trannys and swappin engines...no tools for stuff like that or space

i made a smilar decision when i got my GTP... i wanted the most bang for my buck but i also needed practicality and such...
The GTP is def. a solid car. The 3800 engines are tough cookies. Stock, they're decently quick (look for 1/4 mile times from 14.8 to 15.2 stock) and since it's already supercharged, it's ideal for doing some mods to. I've had my car for about a year and i've done most of the basic bolt on stuff and i'm running around a 14 flat at the moment. This is enough to take out plenty of pesky last gen mustangs and all the rice your heart desires. It's also a huge sleeper, not many people know much about this car. If you're looking for a race car, this isnt ur car. The suspension is not that great, handling is in the middle of the pack and in general, it's pretty much a stop light car. good choice if you want somthing fun and dependable... bad choice if you want somthing that runs any fast than a 13.5 or so (it's possible, but it takes a lot of money)...

its pretty simple: GTP=mid/high 14 second car(when properly driven)
$500 in mods later=13 second car(once again, when properly driven)...
that is why I got mine, I had always loved them but never really considered buying one, it was one of those "that is a cool car" type thing, of course being that its supercharged just about every supercharged car can be made fast pretty easy... So I knew the aftermarket was there... test drove one, was impressed with how quick it was stock, bought my '04 in August of '05 for $15,900(with 28k on the odometer, hell of a deal)... Got bored after a month of owning it and as soon as the warranty was up, went to town, now though I am done modding it, because I am now in the process of buying and building a Lt1 f-body... the small block chevy V8 is where the real aftermarket is, i'm looking to build a cammed bottled baby that won't play nice with Cobras...

Even after the modding your GTP you must of gotten pulled on a few to many times by our f-body cousins. I dont blame you on modding an LT-1 but I'm pretty sure when its over with I'll end up with LS-1 in my driveway. Just dont know what it will be in yet. Camaro or Firebird...hmmmmm or even GTO....
Hell for that matter a good used 2002 ZO6 is 20-22k......not to bad, my dad got 411 to the wheels with exhaust and custom tune on his 02 ZO6......I say money well spent....sorry for the hi-jack

i would def go with the gtp, i have a 97, and have done nothing with the engine, and can take pretty much anything around except my friends v8 t/a

oh i'm going to keep the GTP as a daily driver, but I like to drag race and RWD V8s dominate the drag strip, so I need a cammed/sprayed small block Chevy to go Cobra hunting...
