99 Yukon - Steering Problem [not the common vibration problem]

I have a slightly different problem than the others with the vibration issue. When turning the steering wheel slightly, as in a long curve, my steering wheel feels like it slips. It sort of feels like it's not "connected" to the drive shaft for a split second and the wheels start to turn in that direction until it "catches".

Sorry for the vague description, I have not run into any vehicle with this type of problem.

It has just started within a few weeks and it doesn't occur everytime I drive it. Could this be a steering or a ball joint problem?

This sounds like it could be an issue the EVO (Electronic Variable Orifice)steering or your belt is getting wet (leaking water pump). Check the weep hole for moisture under the water pump. If that is dry, see if you have an electrical connection on the back of the power steering pump. If so disconnect it and see if the problem goes away or not.

Have you been able to resolve your issue? I have the same exact problem with my 00 yukon denali. It is very intermittent and seems to happen more often in very cold weather. It also only happens when I turn to the right. I wasn't going to look into it until it started happening more frequently.

I do still have the problem. I took it to my normal shop and they couldn't determine if anything was wrong. Apparently it didn't happen for them as they tested it. It's very random, I'll go 2-3 weeks without it happening then it will happen for 1 whole day, then stop again. It doesn't seem to be related to heat/cold but I can't say for sure it's not. It's going to be warm here for some time (Memphis) so if it's cold related I may not see it again for a few months at least. We'll wait and see.

After replacing many slightly worn front end parts on my 99 yukon with 80000 miles I changed the evo sensor "Ebay NIB $25" and it solved all my problems.

As noted by another person, this is the steering wheel position speed sensor.
I had the same problem with my 98 Suburban. (In a curve there would be a sudden change in steering torque)
The sensor is at the bottom of the steering wheel (round disk with a couple of wires on it) inside the cab by the firewall. It was very easy to replace. I beleive there is a coupler right by it- disconnect it, sperate the shafts, and replace the part.

I have had the same problem with my 99 Yukon but at this time it has stopped. However, I am interested in what you referred to as the "common vibration problem". What is that? I am having a vibration problem when I acelerate above 45mph. What does yours do?
