i recently purchased a 92 s15 jimmy with 4.3 vin w..from a lady..she says new injectors...new lines..and new gas tank was installed..the jimmy was out of gas..put gas in it, fired right up..drove it around..the idle started to get just a little rough when at stop signs...so far no problem..figured just needed a tune up..installed a new starter...jimmy fires up...sounds not good..try to drive to my dads so he could look at it..have to push gas to floor wont hardly go...chugging bad however when i put in drive instead of overdrive it would pick up speed...engine sounds like it could not breath...first thing they cut the c.converter off...did not help...then they checked the fuel pressure going to the cab..one minute fine next minute nothing..so they dropped the tank and changed the fuel pump..and switched out the piece that everyone writes about thats faulty with the rubber hose and 2 clamps..we tried to fire it up...it will start however very rough..it stalled a couple of times on the way to even get it to them to fix....we changed alot of sensors and stuff on the top..the relays are fine...what we are guessing is..it cant be the nuts or the fuel pressure regulator..because the gas is not making it there in the first place...my family is at the end of the rope and im running out of money and time...also this may help...alot of carbon was coming out of the exhaust..also i seen water at first...now since they cut the converter off ..just a little carbon..however no water...ps..no the jimmy does not smoke...so its not the head gasket...please can anyone help ???...jimmygrrl

Is the Check Engine light on?

could be the egr valve again, early 92's didn't have the egr sensor to pinpoint the problem.

thank you very much for the reply...no the check engine light is not on...and as for the egr valve..we are not for sure where it is located on that model..would anyone know??...i have another man coming over to look at it tomorrow...so i am keeping my fingers crossed...i will let you know what he says...i have suspected the egr valve myself..but like i said im not for sure where it is at...thank you again...jg

You're not real clear about whether the fuel pressure is now up to spec's or not. If not, you need to get the fuel pressure up to spec's before worrying about the EGR valve. Make sure the right fuel pump was installed. In that year range, some trucks require a high pressure pump and some a low pressure pump. Fuel pressure needs to be checked with a fuel pressure gauge, and keep in mind the pump only runs for 2-seconds when the key is first turned on, with engine not running. Then the key needs to be off for 10-seconds before the pump will run for another 2, with engine off. If pressure is up to spec's, see how long it takes for the pressure to bleed down. Also, check the pressure against spec's with engine running.

we have solved the mystery...the guy came over and tested it and come to find out it was a hose near the spider assembly leaking..i guess the rubber hose was rotted so we installed a new fuel hose...all seems well...so now i should probably change the oil, plugs and antifreeze considering gas would of been in it...what sucks is i just changed them all prior to messing with this stuff however im so glad it was not the spider assembly...so thank you guys very much you was very helpful...i hope to chat with you again some day...jg
