"In-Park" question

2000 astro AWD with 90K. When in park it would roll all the way down the street unless parking brake was on. Also if sitting in drive at a standstill the driveshaft still spins and makes a rubbing sound like it isnt connected to the differential, then if i give it a little it will catch hard like i was dropping it out of neutral. Is this a Tranny problem or Differential or Transfer Case problem. Feedback appreciated, thanks.

sounds more like a linkage problem. take it to a tranny shop, could be a quick and easy adjustment.

Not driveable, I'm sure Bowtie might know. I just need to be told what to look for and I can fix it. I just don't want to take everything apart (but will if I have too, cause it makes more sense to learn) . Screw paying for a tow truck to take it there and back , plus the shop just to "look" at it. I NEVER trust any shop.

I just had a prob that sounds very similar to yours. Its ended up my rear pinion bearing went out causing the ring and pinion not to meet, thus not engaging the rear end. I limp it home on the front end, but ever time I had to stop it need a lil gas to get to go because it needed to lock in the tranfer case. So in my opinion you may have something slipping in the rearend. Good Luck. Keep us posted.
