timing belt

so i have a 94 prelude vtec and i was cruising about 35 yesterday and my motor made this whining nione then cut off liek i turned the key off or something... i tries to start it it would only crank....i took the dist. cap off and tried to crank and it didnt turn so i almost sure my timing belt is gone.. what im wondering its how hard is it to replace and how would i reset the timing when i put the new belt on.......i have had my trouibles with her this month a clutch , alternator now this....i do all my own mechanic work so please if you can provide details on the timing thing than please do thanks,jason

if it snapped, you've probably bent some valves and the head will need to be rebuilt = $$$

the t-belt job is relatively simple but time consuming, you're looking at about $400 for parts assuming you replace everything that needs to be changed and not just the belt.

I just had the same prob w/ my 91 'lude. only there was no whining noise before it happened. Just driving along then no power. The mechanic (who btw said it wasn't something he could do) said that it would be best to replace the whole engine b/c it would cost about a grand to fix everything anyway. I only found out a couple of days ago after this happens, that the dam things have to be replaced every 30 thousand miles BEFORE they happen and adjusted every 15k! woulda been nice to know 2months ago when I bought the car.....:banghead:

timing belt should be changed at or around the 70k-90k mile mark.
If the t-belt snapped while you were driving and you tried to restart it...odds are some of the valve are bent.
