lucid dreams

I have been having alot more lucid dreams lateley. I have had 3 or 4 in the past month or so compared to only like 1 the whole rest of my life. They are mostly just partially lucid as I can not take total control. Usually in these dreams as soon as I find out I am dreaming I either try to fly or have sex with the closest female in sight. Lol its pretty amazing. I am usually not 100% sure I am dreaming and I am a liitle afraid to do something risky such as jumping off something to fly or asking a random woman if she wants to have sex, lol. It seems like i can never get the dreams to last long enough though, i usually wake up right when i am taking total control. I am hoping that these dreams will start to become a more common occourance because I have actually been looking foreword to sleeping lateley in hopes of having another. I am finding myself picking up on the dream cues more easily now, such as instant teleporting, time passing without knowledge of time elapsed and feats that defy physics such as accidentally flying.

Another interwesting thing is how real events are reflected in dreams at the same time they are happening such as music being played in your room being projected in your dream. Or this one experience i had where i was dreaming that I was on a ladder and the ladder fell. I hit the ground and felt a sharp pain in my right elbow and on my head. I woke up the next morning and my right elbow was bruised and hurt. Apparently i have fallen out of my bunk bed that night and without waking up i got back in my bed. It was wierd and a dream of the falling nature(in the dream and reality) has occoured twice.

What are you guys thoughts on the subject, past lucid dreams, or teqniques you use to acheive and sustain lucid dreams?

I love this topic.

Only an estimated 100,000 have the ability to control (or have lucid) dreams constantly, I'm lucky to be one of those few. Which is why I love this topic. I'd say a good 97% of my dreams are lucid, I had three last night and two the night before. I usually have most or total control of the dream, its an amazing feat. In a given week I have between half a dozen and a dozen lucid dreams.

There are certain factors that really correspond to that. REM sleep is a huge factor, everybody goes through REM sleep, infact multiple times a night. I've noticed I usually have more dreams, and more vivid dreams if I am super relaxed and tired. Exhaustion causes deep sleep, but the mind and the body are tired and tense therefore you spend time in deep sleep but not REM with paralysis.

Part of REM sleep is paralysis, being that the mind is awake and your body paralyzed this allows your to dream without injuring yourself or waking up. If your muscles werent fully relaxed and paralyzed you could be roundhouse kicking your partner or whatever if you dreamt you were Chuck Norris.

I've also noticed an increase in lucid dreams when my mind is subconciously active. I can realize when my mind is subconciously active, now many people will challenge that theory saying that if I realize that my mind is subconciously active that its really concious activity. No its not, I've done debates, discussions, and seminars on the theory in philosophical, metaphysical, sociological, and anatomical concepts. Theres the argument that dreams are subconcious, and realize them does not make them concious, you're just aware. Its a long argument and its beside the point. The point I was making with having an active subconcious has allowed me to have lucid dreams in which in intepret and solve emotional problems.

Now you're probably asking, "Why the hell are you philosophizing in your dream instead of having sex?". I'll be honest, I've had sex in my dreams...woo...its boring. Unless its really vivid and you actually think its true, but its still boring. I can go have sex if I want...I dont need to be dreaming. Now with philosophy our concious minds are bound to the rules and parameters set forth by society. Although I throw these rules out the window they are still imprinted and no matter what, you will still recall them, subconciously.

Heres the thing with solving problems in dreams. Dreams are a random collection of thoughts, images, and memories just smashed into one. Luckily not all of the rules and parameters are present. Which is why I can fly if I feel like it. Since thats an advantage I am able to solve emotional, sociological, personal, or even scientific problems in my dreams since the rules in concious life do not present themselves.

I've had lucid dreams as far as I can remember. I can still recall a dream as far back as 4 years old. Since I've been knowingly having lucid dreams I've been able to train myself to control my dreams. Thats a task, and all it is is having dreams continuously and realizing your dreams and trying recall them.

Oh I love lucid dreams. Actually , I tend to take control in many of my nightmares. Like this one time when I'd seen some scary movie and realized somehow that it was a dream, and "became the hunter" lol.

As my philophies may not show, I love the mysticism of the dream phenomena. It's bascally where physics don't matter and the consciousness have no conection to it's purpose, nor does it seem to follow any rules, wierd.

I had my first one when I was about 7 or 8, though that didn't turn out so good, freaked out inside the dream and was unable to wake.

Oh, I fall asleep all the time on the bus with music still on in my headphones, and when I wake I don't remember any leap in the track order whatsoever. It's like everything shuts down except the music I'm hearing... ok, now im gonna stop being emo and go to bed.

Yea, you'd probably read my post and think I was pretty perverted, which I am lol, but I'd like to do something adventurous in my dreams, complete a story or something. But for the most part my dreams are pretty random and boring, very incoherent. I rareley get to play out a good story in my dreams. Sex is usually the most exciting thing that happens in my dreams, especially when it feels realistic.

I've never had a lucid dream, but would love to. I've read, and been told that if you keep a journal of your dreams, then you will be able to identify patterns, and in time, be able to know when you're dreaming. I think eventually i'll try this, since it is soo fascinating, but if anyone has any other techniques, please share.

Great topic guys. I have lucid dreams all the time as well. But night terrors occupied a good part of my life a few years ago, I guess partly due to my life at that time. These terrors would happen just about every night. I was very scared at first, but then learned to control the fear. I would be awake but unable to move. I would see figures around me grabbing me while I was fully consciouses . I began to learn this was all a dream and would actually be excited to go to sleep knowing this was going to happen. I would try each night to move and grab these figures. Unable to move I would loose the battle each time. Towards the end I did however gain the power to jump out of bed and swing my arm, one time so hard I smashed it into the wall injuring my fingers. I also would let out these loud screams because of the fight I had to put up with just to move to take control of my body. I haven't had a night terror in a few years since I moved.

My lucid dreams happen every so often, but not nearly as much as GTMike's. I usually have them when I am overly exhausted. When they do happen it is the best trip ever. I could be dreaming then all of a sudden I have full consciousness and think wow I am dreaming so there are no rules I can do whatever I want for the time I have here. It is as if I am in my own world that I create. I usually do have sex with random women on the street just because I can. I also fly and teleport into different situations willingly knowing what I am doing, hoping greatly I don't awake form this world. I even have awoke and then fell back into a lucid dream which is prety amazing.

Does anyone know about Dimethyltryptamine ?

DMT? why yes I do... You basically step into an alien reality, a dream which you try to grasp and control but find yourself lost and emersed in its mystery... so, what about DMT?

Journaling your dreams helps for you to realize you're dreaming, but it wont allow you have a lucid dream. I've realized I was dreaming and not had control before. I journal my dreams, usually mentally as I have a keen visual memory. When I awake I immediately recall my dream, then I usually remember it for a lifetime.

One of my dreams I had the Saturday night was an amazingly clear lucid dream. Often times you have control in a lucid dream in which you've realized you were dreaming. I took it a step further in my dream Saturday, I knew I was dreaming, and I was controlling my mental thoughts in my dream. So technically it's a subconcious of the subconcious. I knew exactly what I was thinking, and why I was thinking it. It was so real I thought it was real when I first awoke, then realized I was at my parents instead of my dorm room where the dream took place.

I knew after writing in this thread I would have a lucid dream, I went to bed with the intention of doing it and I did. So fun, but it was short lived, but still exciting. The dog woke me up barking at nothing ugh!

I had three lucid dreams last night that I can recall, both of them toward the end of my sleep. During one, my alarm went off, went back to sleep and continued on in the dream. Which makes sense that I recall those since 5 minutes after having a dream the mind has forgotten 95% of it.

I had a lot of lucid dreams when I was in middle and high school. I took a psychology class junior year just because there was a dream unit in the curriculum. Anyway, m lucid dreams were most often when I was in some sort of danger or when I was saving family from some danger. I had a lot of dreams where I was saving my younger sister, cousins, etc.

I have fewer fully lucid dreams now but I can often influence my dreams and their happenings. I often have recurring and theme dreams though. I've been having a dream where I get terrorized by a crazed housecat since I was young. I'm not even afraid of cats but that dream always gets my heart racing.

That sounds to me more like a vivid dream with minimal influence more than a lucid dream.

I've had a few lucid dreams, and i've had what gtmike described where you're thinking inside your dream, it's really trippy. i don't seem to have many, if any, lucid dreams anymore and i think it's because of my sleeping patterns, i don't sleep much and i don't sleep well. i can remember i'd usually have a lucid dream towards the end of my sleep and i'd usually wake up after a few minutes (what seemed like a few minutes of dreaming, i obviously have no idea how long it was). the interesting thing about those dreams was that i would wake up very slowly, sort of as though i was slowly passing from unconciousness to conciousness, i'd try to fight it, but eventually i'd wake up completely rested and feeling awesome.

I usually got lucid dreams during the summer because that's when i was able to sleep until my body wanted to wake up instead of having an alarm or parents waking me up.

I can vividly remember the ends of two of my lucid dreams, the first was when i was pretty young (8-12, not sure exactly when) and i had the ability to watch tv when i closed my eyes, it was like a little dream bubble where when i closed my eyes i could watch the flinstones. the other was within the last 4 years (i know this because it was at my boarding school in high school) and i had these little furry friends that were doing some kind of crazy crap, then my alarm went off, i heard it in my dream, told one of them to turn it off, then i realized i was dreaming, said goodbye to them and woke up.

Lucid means that you have the ability to control your dream, your actions and what occurs in your dream. You're are subconciously alive but the rest of your body is paralyzed and your mind is overactive allowing you control these abilities, and all five senses are active. The most important factor, like said previously, is the ability to control what you're doing .

Vivid's dreams are those that are able to be recalled through memory due to a realization of dreaming during the dream state.

I dont usually try to induce them. Sometimes what will happen is working hard to induce one your mind will become overly active, more cortexes will be active which wont allow for a long period of REM sleep and therefore fewer dreams, and less chance of a lucid dream.

The trick with induction is to get the thoughts on your subconcious, not your concious mind. Your concious mind will be overly active, plus dreams evolve from the subconcious and then other cortexes are activated in a lucid dream during REM allowing for a concious realization of dreaming.

For example, the other night my roommates and I were discussing dreams. At one point we discussed sexual dreams. The thought left my mind later that night as I replaced those thoughts with more current ones. According to philosopher George Berkeley when a thought is not longer in the concious mind it no longer exists. To this I challenge that the idea no longer exists in the concious mind but is stored in the subconcious which in turn was the cause of three sexual lucid dreams that night.
