no over drive

I have a 95 concorde, shifts fine till over drive will not stay in over drive shifts back down to 3rd, runs fine Car has 195,000 fluid not burnt nice and clean. machanic says needs trans, i think it is a simpler problem. Please help fast need car, might have to get trans replaced for 900.00 used trans:banghead:
