I just recently changed to 0w-30 synthetic oil, i have heard some stories about it and i am not sure i like what i have heard.
can i change back to regular oil now? There is about 1100 miles on this oil.
some say you can and some say you can't.
i drive a f-150 4x4 with the 5.4, it has 217000 kms. on it I have been told to change to a 10w-40. any suggestions? my biggest concern now is will the change back hurt my engine?:screwy: :disappoin

the truth is, you can change back from synthetic without any problems. another truth is, with only 217,000, you don't need to be running thicker oil. what you need in your engine is what is printed on the filler cap. Your engine is designed with pretty tight clearances, and you don't need to compensate for wear by using more viscous oil. That motor is a pup anyway. using the manufacturers recommended oil, and changing it every 3-5k is your absolute best bet. Don't hop on the German Syntec fancy dancy shit, cause everybody is trying to make a buck off you.

I did just get through telling somebody about the tritons tendency to sludge, and if you notice a build-up on your oil filler cap, you might want to stay with a synthetic, or synthetic blend... but stick with the correct viscosity.

Thanks for the insite. I think I will go back to what it calls for 5w-30
because there is no sludg build up at least not yet.
any other information on this motor would be great.
