But trans ams on insurance are more and trans am's are more expensive.

How about the biggest mistake in the 2.5 4 banger 3rd gens???

And, look at how many years Ford dumped 4 cyls in the Mustang

It's all about economics. You can get a sporty looking car that won't break the bank in gas, ins, etc.

Also as a parent and your kid says "Dad I want a Camaro!" Yeah, sure, have a V6 boy, because I'm not getting woken out of bed to a cop at the front door after you wrapped the damn thing around a tree racing in the streets like a flippen moron. :disappoin

And to get back to the original question, the Firebird is more of a 'upsclaed' Camaro, kind of like the Cougar (used) to be the up scaled Thunderbird, Park Ave was a upscaled LeSabre, and the list goes on.....

i dont think all v6 cars are slow...this is where hypsi87 would come in and get all on your ass lol...... and this thread would go all to hell and he would end up locking it aftyer he helped start the hell downfall lmfao...... damn the old times....................................and my 3800 was the shit!! and fast as hell!!

3.8's are awesome, no question, and Hypsi, yeah, you could almost bet the bank he'd be all over this, but a T-type Buick 3.8 would smoke alot of 8's anyday.

oops. Guess I forgot to update my profile. I sold the stealth about 6 months ago, and now have an 89 Camaro rs.

Gotcha... well still the 2.8/3.1 are pretty weak even compared to a 3.4 much less a 3.8

the camaro is more popular, thats why there is more camaros v6 than firebird v6. take of instance, why is there more aftermarket for camaros??? because there more of them, economics my dear watson. In no way im diminishing the firebird(pround owner myself of V6), but I do say that the firebird even though is heavier, has better looks and more curves, and a more eye catching line.

if you think the v6's are slow, try the 4 cylinder. They actually made them for a while in the 3rd gens. Ive heard of them a long time ago but didnt believe they existed til i bought a camaro repair manual and theres a whole section about the 4 cylinder option. guess that leaves room under the hood to throw a huge turbo in there and whatever else you wanna throw under there. the only thing you need after that is a big ole fart can on the back

a lot of ppl (mostly girls :icon16:) like the looks of a nice sports car, but don't give a rat's ass how powerful the engine is.

there are more camaros than firebirds in the v8 form too, not just v6's. yes the stock 3.8 engines in those things aren't terribly fast, but any car can be made fast as hell depending on how much $$ you want to throw into it.

take a stock 3.8 vs. a stock 3rd gen 305 car and you may be surprised :icon16:

Yea, stock 3.8's are quite slow, but the bonus is that they have a lot of performance parts on the market for them. Throw on a supercharger and they move pretty good. But if your lookin for performance without the work, save up some cash and get a v8, well worth it. And about why camaro's are more popular: they always have been, since the beginning. I see at least 1 camaro every day, and rarely any firebirds or trans ams. Guess people like the look of them better?
