ok, this is what is going on. i have a 1996 chevy tahoe 4x4. My dad and i were pulling a car back from chicago with it and i forgot to pull it out of overdrive on the highway. Well once i got back into town it was not shifting properly. I dont know if i am missing 2nd or jsut having troubles going into 2nd, and i know i dont have 4th. Reverse still works. I have been looking into a rebuilt transmission for it. But in the last couple of days i have been researching maybe rebuilding the transmission myself.

If was to rebuild it how hard is it and does any one have the diagram for the 4l60e trans.

Also if anyone else is having this kinda problem can you please give me any pointers.

Again, i have a 1996 chevy tahoe 5.7l 4x4 4 dr.

Welcome to AF, sounds like a possible vacuum leak, do you have a rough idle that would be a dead miss? What was the original problem? You have tacked onto an old thread, when we are done here this will be closed. You have to give my A/SA car a 1.5 second head start! LOL

A thing on a 4l60E and this is a must, throw away the 5 black springs in the direct clutch drum.GM and the aftermarket have differant opinions on this.GM says to put them back in and the aftermarket says to throw them away. The aftermarket is right and I know why. Those 5 springs restrict the clutches from floating, one clutch burns up and the rest are toast later on.I see them and throw them away, works better without them
