why do so many americans hate d1 (drifting)?

drifting is a really cool spinoff of racing, I know it has nothing to do with finishing first, but there is all the other racing styles for that

I assume that you have read other posts in this forum. Did you see anyone using big bold letters? I didnt think so and in the case that you havent read any other threads it is kinda annoying so please no more bold big letters.
My eyes are hurting....I was also unaware that most Americans hate drifting. Do you have any proof suggesting they do?

I don't hate it.
Gotta be fun as hell to drive.
Just boring to watch to me. Much like NASCAR. Unless there is a wreck...it is boring for me.

I don't hate it, I love it... I think it's a nice alternative to 'formal racing'.
Where you're not racing at all, just trying to out skill the other driver.

the big problem with drifting is that the winner isnt as clear cut. its judged is it not? in racing you know who wins...

Its like the automotive equivalent of figure skating. Its cool, but not really a competitive sport like they make it out to be. Watching it inspires nothing for me. I would however like to roast off some tires and slide around a turn.

The only reason I don't like it is beacause I cannot do it. Not that I can't slide my car aroud a corner at high speed, but I don't have that much money to just blow on replacing my tires all the time.

Its fun, where does everyone hate it. I think most people who race like it, I dont know of anyone who races and doesnt like it.

now i do love racing where they drift... aka, dirt racing. and even really if you watch nascar or F1, those guys are almost always in a slight state of sliding because they are pushing so hard. look at a still shot of nascars on the bottom of a corner, you will notice how the backend is a little farther from the line than the front.

Most people who dont like it just dont understand it. Its hard to appreciate Dorifto when youve only seen a bunch of sponsored cars doing it at Irwindale.
To really fall in love with the sport you have to see it on the mountain passes. Just like rally, the skill required to maintain all that chaos in check is amazing.
I first saw amatures doing mountain drift in Germany back in 1994. It was amazing stuff. I also went to Osaka, Japan in 1997 and saw it there. I didnt know it was called drift or how it worked till 2002 when it became popular in America. Still what we get is very watered down stuff. Both D1 and Formula D are very far from the raw and dangerous reality of street or mountain drift.
I also dont think people hate it at all, most people just rather watch other forms of racing. but its not that they hate it.
I for one love it. In fact the whole reason I bought the GTO was cause of this video. I mean i had thought about getting it cause of the 400 hp LS2 but this video just put me over the top!

i love that vid with the gto. i remember the first time seeing it. i think my jaw just dropped, and i thought i want one. i still do, jsut not the pontiac version.
i think that americans don't hate drifting, its kinda like the whole cricket sport here in the us. how many of you actually follow cricket? how many of you know what cricket is? its kinda like that. well theres that and the most rwd cars that are available nowadays that are pretty cheap and eazy to find are mustangs and camaros. cars good for going in straight lines in stock trim. im not being biased, but thats just how it is. i think you are 'out of american culture' if you dont drag the stang, and autox or something instead.
i'm not a drifting guro or xtreme fan or anything, i just dont watch it. i'd rather go out and take some street corners at speed, or in a vacant lot and put out a quick course with friends at an abandoned warehouse. youtube vid and things are interesting at times, but most americans see drifting as a fad.

This is like that one thread the OP started about why American's only like NASCAR and hate F1...He reminds me of a friend I had in high school. He was an exchange kid from Tawain, and was always like, how come Americans hate anything except 'Stangs and 'Maros. I pointed out to him a number of fast imports in the school parking lot, and even then, he was like, well, thats not a whole lot.
I'm not a huge drifting fan. I admire the skill it takes, and I understand that some people enjoy it, its just not for me. I don't hate it, I just don't care about it.

I accidently watched a little footage from that Formula D1 show on Speed one time, and I have to say that even though I've watched it one time, it's more entertaining than NASCAR is... I mean, do NASCAR drivers even know how to turn right? :loser:

Because since it got popular it's bred some of the dumbest people on the planet. When it was just in Japan, it was cool because anyone who did it knew what they were getting themselves into. Now I'm hearing the word 'drifting' a thousand times more then Nascar or F1, and I very much tire of it and then 'crashed on public roads' after the fact. Being badass is one thing, being stupid is not badass.
About the judging, Keiichi Tsuchiya is incredibly biased, just watch the best motoring show where a subaru sti beats all the supercars in the show.
I'll tell you why I'm a frickin hater about this, because whenever a sport or a tv show or anything goes from one cultural society to another, so much is lost in translation. In the case of my country, they took Japan's drifting culture, destroyed it like they probably did the same with hotrodding and made sh!+ loads of money off of it. That doesn't sicken you?

I actually liked that movie, doesn't mean I'm going back on my word. I like it because i'm a car guy and that was indeed a fast movie, even if it was mostly fake.

I like it mostly because it takes an incredible amount of skill to drive less than a foot away form another car at 70+ mph sideways. thats just cool. Id rather watch golf then Nascar. But Id rather watch GT/proto racing then that lol.

yes. yes they do, but theres usually a big ass wall there so they try not to turn that way most of the time.
And Juan Pablo montoya is a retard. He sucked at F1 and destroyed every car he ever got into and he isnt any better in Nascar. I hope he retires and stops giving us Colombians a bad rep!

Haha, I just like messing with the Nascar fans. They get so touchy about Montoya, but just a few weeks ago Montoya was pretty impressive in that Busch cup road course race in Mexico City. 19th to 1st with 24 laps to go must have something to do with his skill on non-oval tracks. You might want to swallow your tounge about Bristol, if I'm correct thats the 1st CoT race and I think he'll enjoy all the extra downforce. He did pretty well last weekend in the Nextel race as well.

To be honest I wasn't a big fan of his when he was in F1 either. I found him rather obnoxious and sometimes dangerous, but I wouldn't say he sucked at F1. He soundly beat Ralfy in 2002, 2003, and 2004 and generally placed well in WDC points. He might have won a championship if it wasn't the Michael Schumacher era. At McLaren he just wasn't as good as a very talented Scandanavian named Kimi. Winning the Indy 500 is no easy task either.
In my view, Nascar is probably the right kind of racing for him. Stock cars will allow for a little contact without the cars necessarily wrecking. If Montoya isn't representing Colombia in racing, then who is?

he might like having the CoT (since its mentioned, id like to say the CoT is a damn atrocity), but bristol is a completely different animal from where they have raced so far... it tends to weed out the rookies. i dont think ill need to swallow my tongue on that, but you never know i guess. he did well last weekend, but those stupid 1.5 mile cookie cutters are easier and different than the short tracks. i hate them, as do many many nascar fans. but nascar seems to love them (1.5 milers). they are boring, plain and simple. when people say nascar is boring, i think that they must have seen a 1.5 mile track. and i do agree actually, that his showing in mexico was impressive, but it was busch. i expect he will do well and might even win in the nextel cup road races, but it wont be as easy going against jeff gordon and tony stewart and a couple of the others. i also agree, that stock cars probably are right for him. he likes to eat too... and in nascar its not as critical to be super fit like in F1, just look at tony stewart.
