The most common problem of this type is usually in the shift release mechanism. I'm assuming it's a floor shift. If so, the button you push with your thumb is sticking causing the lock to think it's still not in "Park". Turn the key to the 'ON' position. Then try pushing that thumb button a few times allowing it to snap in and out abruptly. After that, then try working the key from 'On' to 'Off'. That should release the key after a few tries of this sequence. Ultimately, you will need to get some lubricant down inside the spring loaded interlock mechanism inside the console.

Ill try pushing the button again, but I can't turn the key to ON yet because it wont move from OFF at all.

It sounds like you have a bad lock cylinder then. Last option, I would suggest is that you gently tap the end of the key into the lock witha small hammer (as if is wasn't going in far enough). Sometimes this loosens up the tumblers in the lock and allows the lock to move. If that doesn't work, then you need to replace the lock cylinder and key

Actually, since it may have something to do with the shifter, its probably important to mention that my button is broken and pops out easily. I did try pushing it multiple times, and trying to budge the key.. but no luck.

Put it in "neutral" then try turning the key.

You Probly need to get that button on the shifter fixed too.
A used shift lever would probly work.
And a new lock cylinder isnt out of possibilities either.
