2000 GLS My Story

Hello everyone! I'm new to AF. This is my first post. I spent alot of time looking for a very good used car to buy back in 2004. After months of searching I found what i wanted. A 2000 olds intrigue GLS with 34k miles. The only problem the car had when I made the purchase was the passenger side power window did not work. I got the car for a great deal ( very good ). So i let that slide, figureing at some point id get that fixed. The only other issue i had was the flickering headlights, which i read about before i bought the car, and decided to live with it.

For a full year I had no other problems. Then one day in spring 2005 my car started stalling off and on and the car shifted very hard. It also seemed that It was running at Quite a bit lower RPM's than normal. At one point the car stalled while driving. After about a week of frustration I got the car serviced. They found out that my Crankshaft position sensor was bad, they replaced it, and all was well for the next 2 years. During this time, my window which never worked before ( it would go down halfway, and moaned while trying to go back up, then stopped totally. I had to pull it back up ). Started working. Not a little but fully, no problems. Its been working fine for over a year now. Strange. I also noticed that my light in my shifter ( the D, N, P ) was out. It didnt work for about a year, then one day i noticed it working again, it worked for about 6 months, and now its not working again...

Over the last 6 months I have been noticing alot of issues with the car that is worring me. One day on the way to work I noticed my gas gague was acting up, the needle would spike to the top then down to the bottom, then just jump a bit. this only lasts about 5 minutes then the go back to normal. It scared me. It seemed to only happen after the car had been running about 15 minutes. At first it was only the gas gauge, then the temperature guague started doing the same thing, mid-drive. spiking up and down. It only does it 2-3 days a week, the other days, nothing happens. I also started having hard starts. The car would try to turn over 3-4 times, I would stop, reset the key, and try again and it would start right up. Its been doing that the past 3 months infrequently. I figured I needed a new battery ( I still had the factory original which is a 7 year life). But with how tight my cashflow has been i havnt been able to.

Now this morning, where my real problem lies. Last night I went to the store, there was nothing noticeably wrong with the car, I got home at 11pm, and went to sleep. At 9am my wife had to go to work, she went down, and it wouldnt start. I came to check it out...it was like there was no power to the car, I would turn the key, no radio, no power windows/ locks...even the door ajar tone sounded weak. Decided it was the battery, I got it jumped. I let it run for about 5 minutes, and left to buy a new battery, I got the the auto shop. when I went to park the car in reverse, it died ( as i shifted ). When I tried to restart the car, all the gagues spiked to the max and shot back down, all at the same time. luckly i made it to the shop before that happened. After a few hours I got a call from the shop saying they checked the alternator, and it was fine, they said the 7 year old battery was dead ( no shock there ).

Here is where my problem is....I went to pick it up, and the car started fine, it feels fine, but now my TRACK OFF light stays on and my PCS light keeps flashing. Can anyone tell me what might be causing this? Could the reset in power while changing the battery have caused this? And would there be a way to fix this simply? It starts fine now, everything works fine, just those 2 lights are on, no other lights.

most general OBD2 scanners cannot get the ABS codes correctly.

you need a TEch2 GM scanner to check those ABS codes and figure what is wrong. I wouldn't mess around and goto GM and figure which wheel is the problem and have it fixed. These are typical problems, but not a big deal.

Having your car scanned by the GM Tech2 would be a good investment in your case. They can check for a faulty ignition switch also. I would fix the alternator before you get more electrical problems = cheap insurance.
