I'm considering purchasing a 2001 tt that needs a timing belt replacement. The only info i have is it broke while driving, whats involved in the replacement and what would the worst case scenario be.

If the engine is seized what kind of work would i be looking at for replacement or a swap. What are my options for a swap?

Thanks,
Lawrence

Be ready to put 4 grand or more into the repair... you might be better off just finding a new motor at a junkyard or something.

i work at an audi dealer and we see this all the time. if the belt breaks while idling you might have a good chance of saving the head just by replacing valves. if the belt broke while cruising it is safe to assume the head is garbage. it is definelty fixable if you can find a cheap used head. if you want new then expect to pay close to 3k for the head. we also see a lot of water pumps locking up causing the belt to break. while your there, replace the water pump, tensioner, and pullies.
