Did it run before it sat for 8-months??
If it had 1/4 tank or less of gas while it sat, the gas is probably bad. Bad gas smells like rotten eggs and/or paint varnish. Take the gas cap off and put your nose up to the open filler neck and you can tell. Also, it could have developed water in the gas tank from condensation while sitting.
Let us know when you find the problem - as most people never respond back.

tried just a LITTLE bit of starter fluid in intake and see if it starts briefly ? if it does than most likely fuel problem. on later trucks had to make sure of fuel pump replaced with right part. 1 low pressure and the other high pressure. if you have high pressure unit but put low pressure in it, it will run crappy most of the time and die out, but not sure if yours fell in to that years.
