I got a problem with my truck. Its a 92 f-150 XLT. Im up here serving in alaska in the us.army. Vechicles get messed up alot around here. Well one day i started up my truck that took a while because the cold weather up here nearly crack my winterization cord. I got about 50 feet then it died. I thought it might of been froze up. so i fixed the wiring and plugged it in for a day and i also replaced the battery. i went out the next day to start it and it wouldnt. It would turn over but it never got to the point that it would actually start. So i thought my gas lines froze up because i could of got bad gas with moisture in it. I put in isoheet but that still wouldnt do any thing. i tried and tried turning it over but then i think i fried my starter. I little smoke came out around where the starter but im not sure, and when i turn the key my truck makes a loud click noise and it sounds like it is coming from the starter. I got to get this truck running to trade it in so i can get a newer vechicle I kinda sucks walking to your company in the morning in 28 below weather or even colder. I also think it might be the main fuel pump because i tried both tanks and it still wasnt having it.

Hi,
Hook a pressure gauge up to the fuel system and see what pressure you get, check a shop manual for what it should be. If you have an electric pump check the fuse.
Where there is smoke there is... dead electrical things. Let it cool off for a while, it might work again.
Also try hooking up a timing light to your coil and/or the #1 spark plug, this will tell you if the spark plugs are firing.

check if your getting a charge to your battery if its just clicking that might be your problem if thats not the problem check your ignition coil and solinode if thats not the problem check the starter solinode also dont forget to check the fuses if its a manual transmission have you tried to push start it that might give you a better idea were the problem if your getting a clicking noise its not your fuel u need to look at these are just somethings ive experianced in the past with other vehicals

If you still cannot get it to work my best suggestion is to pull the starter and hook it directly up to the battery then run a jumper wire to the solenoid connector.
When you jumper it the gear on the end should get pushed out and start spinning, my guess on yours is that it is getting pushed out (that is where the loud click is coming from) but not spinning. If that is the case you will need to replace the starter.
