i am taking over my father car. had problems with the car for the last 6 months, the dealer replaced the battery, did a full tune up, the air flow sensor, the idle motor?.., the crank sensor (not dealer) and the problems continues.
problem..as described by my father..the car randomly stalls and had
trouble starting..its cranks ok.
i have been driving it for about a month, it stall when iddling in traffic
sometimes it starts right up, sometimes it takes some cranking.
when starts, its rough need to step on the gas to 3000 rpm and hold for
10 to 20 seconds it shakes a bit and it goes back to normal.,
when first starts in the morning it always starts normally, need to drive for a while before problems starts, sometime i drive for 3 days and no problems.
i spoke with the dealer who did the work, says fuel pressure normal, no leaks on the fuel pressure regulator. no codes, hes not sure what the problem
i would like to know if anyone can recomend a great mechanic anywhere within 20 miles of nyc.

is this the 3.5L or 3.8L? (I believe you have the 3.5L from your problems)

What year is the car?

The 3.5 motors have 2 crank sensors. One is refered to as the 7x and the other the 24x. One on the front of the motor and the other is on the side of the block.

Hope this helps...

-that's not really true

The crankshaft position sensor (CKP) has two sensors in the one unit (one piece)

The camshaft position sensor is on the side of the engine (fairly easy to replace)

It sounds like the CKP sensor is bad. -Was the replacement a GM part and I would check the connection and make sure it was done right. The SES and SVS lights never come on in this car? The CKP sensor also has a calibration thing = was this calibration done. I replaced my CKP, didn't do the calibration and my car drives great = your car may need the calibration and/or a new sensor.

i have somewhat the same problem, and ive been told lots of things. ive changed the PCM and it didnt fix it. when you have to rev the gas, do your gauges work? mine do not, and it does this eveytime i start it now. it used to not die once it was running, but is not drivable anymore. i just bought a fuel presure tester but havent used it. the guauges not working while its running rough is what has me stumped. i dont see how a fuel pressure regulator or fuel pump would cause the guages to spike while cranking, then all drop to 0 when running rough, then work fine once it gets going. if you find the problem, please pass it on. ive been forced to drive my 1969 international daily, and the gas consumption is breaking me.

it is above the starter. You need to remove the starter to get to it.
