i just bought a used console for my car. by console, i mean the peice that holds the rear ashtray, to the ebrake, and up to the shifter.
i was in the process of removing my previous console, and i was having difficulties unscrewing the bolts which hold it down. me being the idiot i am, decieded i would just turn has hard as i could, and it stripped the bolt to aboslutey nothing. i call the guy who i bought it from, Jeff (90CivicRider), and he suggested i just loaded it up WD40 and try unscrewing the other one like that, heh. I tried, just stripped the shit out of that one too.
I was thinking that there may be another bolt on the other side or osmething hold it on...i'm not really sure, but i had no luck doing it on my own.
So pretty much, i am screwed into keeping this ugly destroyed console right now. I have no clue what to do, everyone else i have asked, hasn't a clue either....HELP ME!!! :bloated:  :bloated:

you can get a drillbit type thing that will take strpd bolts out at the hardware store

Can you get vicegrips around the head of the screw?

Okay. In your center console, there are 4 screws. 2 underneath the e-brake (under the rectangular beauty cap), and 2 up towards the front of the console (one on each side). Neither of these should have a nut on the other side, the two up front just screw into a plastic clip, and the 2 under the e-brake go into threaded bungs (huh-hu he said "bung").
I don't understand why you're having so much trouble with the screws (sounds like you're working on the two up front). You can go to the hardware store and buy what's called an "easy out" or "screw extractor". Then, what you have to do is drill a hole in each screw down through the threaded part (probably about a 1/4" deep. Then, you put the screw extractor in the hole and use a wrench to twist it. It's designed to grab the inner wall of the hole you drilled, and you just unscrew it...
If you aren't planning on keeping your center console, just hack away at it with a dremel tool or something...

Yea, i did this too!!! I have the same problem, and now with the teg console coming, i am gonna just take my dremel and drill off the heads of the screws and take the console out, then when i put the teg console up, i dont know if the holes are gonna be in the same place or not.... So if they are in the same place, i'll just get the screw extractor from the hardware store, if not, i'll just put in the teg console like i am suposed to.....

I guess he got it installed. Now his shifter sticks upto high..lol
easy fix, a shift knob should do the trick. He's got the Hurst shortshifter with the stock shiftknob.
oh yeah, and Welcome to the board Tyler.
