I was curious if anyone has a prelude they lowered with the 92-96 body style???

What types of suspension setups (coil overs, shocks) do u recommend?

I have been having SEVERE issues with my 95 lude...and I am guessing it's b/c I lowered her. I originally lowered her 2 inches w/Progress Springs and 5 way adjustable Tokico Shocks, along with an adj. camber kit. She seemed to be sinking... so I thought. my friends all thought I was crazy until one day when the rear pass. side upper control arm literally dented the rear quarter panel from the inside-out.

Since then, I have had the whole suspension re-done (even bringing her up 3/4 of an inch-or TRYING to). The upper control arms are so badly beaten that they are grinding away down to the ball joint. The shock mounts under my hood are starting to reshape...

Has anyone dealt with this kind of problems? I am not actually sure she is sinking... I'm thinking I could get shorter upper control arms??? However, she is sitting uneven (by 1/8-1/4 inch) right now. Which means somethings wrong. Any suggestions or anyone with similar problems?????

You're looking at a new control arm. A shorter one will be the piece that corrects what you encountering, but I don't think any companies make it for the 4th gen, or any prelude for that matter.
I'm lowered on SKunk 2 springs, and its a 2.25-2.5" drop which is starting to get at my alignment after 2.5 months. I'm also running on stock OEM shocks with 150K+ miles
Did you ever get an alignment after you put everything on??? That sounds like it was either installed wrong, or just not looked after.

I don't remember the exact details but there was a problem with people mounting Tokico shocks incorrectly. There was a washer that's supposed to go BELOW the shock mount but people were putting it ABOVE the shock mount and it would cause problems...something like that, don't remember exactly what it was about...

Thank You for your opinions... you don't even know how much this issue has been bothering me. My car is currently in storage, but she will be ready to come out in about a month and I am so clueless on whether or not I should sell her, put more money into getting her fixed, or just drive her (b/c these idiot mechanics keep telling me there is "NOTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR". I beg to differ!!!

Yes, I have had allignments done on the car many times... when I replaced the bent 18's and put on 17's, when the car was first lowered, when the suspension was redone, when poly. bushing were put in, etc. It is kinda funny, but the shop that originally did the lowering wants nothing to do with me. He told me that there has to be something else wrong with the car (and asked me if I was the 1st owner). Said I should go down the road to a collision center and have the frame looked at- he said it must have been in an accident w/ the first owner and the frame's bent.

However, this place that first lowered it (back in 2003), my friend was working there at the time and when I spoke to his ex boss (I guess he got fired) on the phone about a year ago, he did remember me. I guess he was pissed b/c I gave him the invoice # and he was bothered that my buddy charged me what he did. The boss said I paid about a third of what I should have been charged. Plus, he remembered that my buddy had pulled my car into the garage w/o asking his boss about doing the job. He was on shop time and then pulled another employee (also on the clock) to assist him b/c he was having problems lowering the rear end.

Sure enough, the rear end started feeling weird last year sometime. It was almost as if the rear was not really attached to the car... like she was, but was just floating and dragging along w/ the front end. Currently, the rear end has developed a loud rumbling noise... A few mechanics said it was wheel bearing noise, but it's gotten progressively louder and is now specifically coming from the middle of the back seat.

At this link are some photos of the damage and the suspension set up... feel free to take a look and let me know what you think!

Have you thought about taking it to an outside collision center (where you dont know anybody and have no affiliations with) and getting the car raised back to stock height, getting them to fix the damage? I realize you want the it lowered but it shouldn't be worth all those problems.

I got a 93. Tokicos on it when I bought the car. Many many problems. had to get a camber kit in order to pull my tires back to straight, because our generation doesnt have an adjustment...... (before kit, / \ - after kit ||) after installing that, it pushed my toe out very bad. the adjustment bolt would not pull my tires all the way back, thats how bad it was. Thats how the rear end floating was happening. So I had to take the bolts out, drill my subframe abit, and put new bolts in. Now my ball joints are crappin out. So whether or not these shocks were installed correctly, its been putting a hell of alot of stress on my suspension.

Do you have a camber kit installed? If not, then how is the tire shop adjusting your camber? Hope this helps in some way

That's so funny that you say all this about your 93 Prelude! I am experiencing almost the exact same stuff. In fact, If you want to take a look at all the pictures of the damages, the link is:

Yes, I did install a camber kit when the car was first lowered. The shop that lowered it recommended I put one in and they furnished it (the eibach allignment kit). However, I looked this part up on the internet and it is made for a variety of models of vehicles. But I am not sure if there is one for the front and one for the rear.

The shop installed the same part # on both front and back. I am thinking those bushings are shot. They were squeaking REALLY bad last fall and someone lubed them with lithium grease.

Also, a mechanic recently told me that the angle my upper controls are sitting at now is putting SEVERE stress on my ball joints too!
