what the slit on the front lip spoiler of the P10 primeras is for? well, i'm almost positive it's for a tow hook.. as seen on the touring cars. attached is a picture if you're not sure what i'm talking about.

i appologize if this has already been pointed out.

Good question. It's not likely for a tow hook. If you look at the Primeras more closely, you will see the stock versions have a tow hook sticking out next to the right side (left side looking at it) fog light.

It's more likely a cooling vent or just for looks. :bloated:

If it's for cooling, it could be on of the transmissions gets a bit warm and needs a little air flow. That's not too likely either since I'm pretty certain the splash shields are above the vent.

Probably for looks. Ick.

That said, I'm trying to find out if they will fit on the USM G20. :D

Oh, and if you look at the Primera touring cars, none of them use that for a tow hook that I've ever seen.

Why would I need a tow hook with Nissans reputation for reliable engines ?

alright geo, you asked for it.. so it isn't a real picture, it's actually a cardboard cutout of a touring P10. see the hook? i know, it's hard to tell, but it definitely is. oh, and there's an interesting story as to how i acquired this little paper primera.

check here for the story.. this happened about 5 months ago.

it is definatly not for a tow hook....as U can see on my P11 GT...tow hook is on the left hand side next to the fog light....I am positive it is a vent....as if U C it from inside the engine bay U can see that the vent extends a further 5"- 8" and it is above the splash guards......:D

 wot I don't know is Y it is only on one side.......

then again it is on the side the air intake is maybe " only guessing here" it could be for that??????????

I see. :)

Shall we examine actual photos of the real Calsonic Primera? :D

Hehe. :D

Racing cars are often different from race to race, but it's pretty clear that that the opening is not for a tow hook per se.

I still think it's most likely to be a cooling vent for one or more gearbox.

;) yep I go wit dat......obvious one would have been brakes....but as it is only one side it rules that out.....I shall have a closer look at the back of the vent and see to where it is aimed.....maybe some pics as well....

Nah. For brake cooling ducts, I'd bet they would just cut open the area where the foglights go. That's a nice size and would be perfect for that.

I'll bet it's to cool the AWD gearbox. That one is so much larger and naturally encounters significantly greater heat.

Has anyone thought about e-mailing Nissan and asking?

That spoiler comes standard on my P10 T4 Primera as well as the Te version. The duct extends into the engine bay as stated by ragt20 but there is no further ducting beyond that. I don't see any functional use for it apart from appearance. Perhaps it could be used for clutch cooling??

Yeah, I agree. After looking at a photo of a T4 with a GTi-R conversion in the Hyper Rev book, I'm totally convinced it's just for looks. There is nothing behind that vent for it to cool.

Ive had a good look at that slit before, when i was considering trying to feed some cold air to my filter, but i agree with P10DET, i believe it for transmission cooling. If you look on a P11, the slit then becomes a large funnel behind the bumper and is aimed directly at the gear box. As for the cold air feed, there was no way to do it from the funnel.

Here's a pic of the back of that bumper cover from a P10. I can confirm it exits below the splash guard on my T4.

P10DET, Yes I have the pics and some measurements of the bumper and cover now but It'll be a few more days before I get them scanned in and posted.;)

http://www.sr20deforum.com/NonCGI/Forum6/HTML/000366.htmlI think your paper Primera is of Tamiya origin. They're a Japanese model & R/C car manufacturer. Attached is a (small) pic of the front of the box for the model of the same Primera, and you can see the same little blob of a tow-hook there. (I guess that's what it is. ) Usually, one of the thin sides of the box will have pictures of the top, front, back and side of the car like the pic you have. That guy must have cut one out. :D
