Electric waterpump for '98 GTP?

I'm getting ready to perform a heart transplant on my '98 GTP. The car has 67K on the chassis and I bought a complete long block with an S/C with 35K miles that is going to be the candidate for surgery. I'm thinking an electric waterpump would free up some horse power. Any opinions on electric vs belt-driven waterpumps? Reliability issues ie. MTBF? (Mean Time Between Failure)

you're just transfering the engine load from the water pump to the alternator and maybe over stressing the charging system with no real hp gain. be sure to check the rated draw on the pump. it might work out with a high efficiancy alternator.

with an electric water pump, high efficiany alternator, better idler gear bearing you might gain 2 to 5 hp for a couple of hundred greenbacks.

i know GM is working the other way around with reducing voltage needs to increase mileage and hp. maybe a thermostaticaly controlled water pump (electric or belt and clutch) would increase efficiancy as the belt driven ones are on all the time.
